Another XV750 going Cafe...

Hi Folks,

Just got myself a '81 XV750 for a steel last week, I've build it in my mind a 1000 times over the last years with here and there some minor changes, but 90% set.

On the menu, CAD drawing, 3D printing, Carbon fiber and aluminium, all home made.

That's the bike

First thing I did is remove all the accessories to have a better overall view.

It's not my first Cafe build, but hopefully the one I'll finish !

This is my first Cafe build:

XJ900 - Z650 fuel tank - skateboard based seat - stainless steel Ikea salad bowl fairing, brass rear light from a chandelier :D it was another trip...

So since my XJ900 will never see the light of day ( running on 3 cylinders and other issues, mainly in my mind... ) It will be a donor bike, since the front fork has 37mm tubes and the XV 36mm, I'm ( well a shop don't have a lathe ) going to machine 1mm out of the stock XV triple tree, plenty of meat there, this means I'll go from a 19" to a 18" wheel and from single to dual disk, with another cool fact, the XJ fork is 2.5" shorter, should be enough for the correct stance, if not I'll lower it some more...

As I've being told, and found out in a build here, that the rear XJ wheel is plug and play, so there I'll go from a 16" drum brake to a 18" disk brake.

What I did so far, not much, front wheel:

I'm currently shaving the fork legs since there wil be no fork brace nor fender.

To be followed...

Scored a KZ650 SR fuel tank with fuel cap, which is apparently very rare, waiting for it to arrive from the Nederlands

For those who don't know it's this tank:

I didn't do much yet because the bike still has to past a control in order to be imported ( bought the bike in the Nederlands ) and it has to be 100% stock for it to pass...

I saw a couple of cafes with full wheels so I made my own, don't know if I going to use them, I will see once finished if it goes with the style or not, but there it is...

Stil have to glue it together and paint it the same color as the wheels...

Interesting choice for the wheels.
The tank looks like it will work very well with the bike.
Should be quite a transformation from the starting cruiser look.

Thanks,

It will probably be hard to identify the bike, and certainly the age of the bike, once finished...

I've got to many ideas and only one build, the hardest thing is to make something coherent, and not try to be special every inch of the bike, balance if the hardest thing, not designing or building !

I'll build the whole bike and than see if those disks make sens or add something to the build...

Alright alright alright...love these monoshock Viragos and you picked the perfect tank. Looking forward to watching your build mate

I'm all over it like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Looks great as a mock up, looking forward to seeing it on the bike. I always like the solid wheel look.

not my kind of thing but hey - see if you can pull i off. if i can add some bored, mindless rambling, i'd make 3 points.

1/ do shit others aren't.
2/ make it your own.
3/ give no fucks what anyone else thinks.

That's my motto !

Yeah, that's genius. My CAD skills extend to the Cardboard variety. This is next level stuff - enjoying watching this shape up

Thanks for the kind words

Jimbonaut, About the last drawing, it looks maybe quite a design, but it's really not, it will take you a whole 3 minutes to draw it !
I think Da Vinci said something similar to his mate Dave about his new design for a helicopter :D
