What did you build this week?

I've been by the Huntington Ingals shipyard in Pascagula, MS many times and last I heard they're pretty much always hiring. They are the largest employer in MS.

My oldest started as an apprentice electrician when he graduated from high school. He left for a few years and was head of maintenance for Target stores in the Atlanta region. When he was lured back to the shipyards he got an office job and was teaching at the apprentice school for a while. He has been there about 20 years now. He works quality control and logistics purchasing. My other son was a manager for Publix Supermarkets. He got tired of their BS and was hired in maintenance and planning. He monitors supply flow and building time problems. He is in the yard wears Carhartt instead of dress clothes and a tie. He has his own office and truck so he is happy as a pig in mud.

Edit: My oldest just corrected me. He is the now advanced electrical planner for submarines.
 
This is a beautiful home. Some day, you will actually wish that you had more pictures (plumbing, water lines, wiring, etc.) We built ours in '85, and took plenty of photos that have helped when eventual repairs were needed, but wish we had more.

Good eye!
Yeah because we are slow it basically sat all winter without a roof and a sealed crawlspace. Once it got wet in there it stayed wet all winter.
We had to have the whole thing soda blasted and remediated. All good now but my got what a gigantic pain in the ass (and expensive).
Lesson learned, frame it and roof it ASAP and don't start it at the beginning of the wet season.
 
Thanks guys, It's been fun, slowly getting to the stage where things are getting actually finished, its'a good feeling to wrap something up for good.
Got the breaker box finish wired the other day, simple thing but man it felt good to knock that off the list!

I know someone who used the dry ice blasting to get rid of mold in their attic. It was very clean.

I would never recommend soda to my worst enemy. The mess is astounding. The guys that did it were the "pros" as well but no amount of apologizing or making excuses cleans baking soda from every single surface in the house. A clusterfuck all around on that one.

You look remote. Hope you made provisions for a backup emergency generator. We only need ohrs once or twice a year for a couple hours, but it sure is nice! Just a cheap Harbor Freight 8000 Watt unit with their chord and a 60 Amp 220 volt interlocked breaker. I roll it out of the garage, hook it up, fire it up, open all breakers and then close the backup and desired load breakers. Some folks very remote set up permanent with LP or Natural gas, but since they built a subdivision next to us I didn't go that far.
 
mold is no fun, glad you got it out. My wife has been stuffed up at bedtime for like the last month. When I pulled the carpet up next to her side of the bed I found a big ole circle of mold on the plywood from some sort of liquid spill we probably missed, hit it with bleach and let it dry before putting the new hardwood over it, she stopped being stuffed up the very next night.

We are in the middle of nowhere, I've got a primary disconnect on the outside of the house that after inspection i'll probably add a plug to so i can switch to genset power if I want to.
They are real picky about that here we have to have auto transfer switches ($$$) and other crap so some moron doesn't backfeed the line by forgetting to turn off the main breaker. (and then electrocuting the poor sap working on the downed line)

Yeah we hope we got it all! Neither of us is very sensitive to is our current place is a mess but still not something I wanted to deal with on a new build.

Thanks man, yeah I got a bit obsessive with this guy. Had to make new tools to get the right bone texture, CAT and MRI scans of the real deal to get it dialled in. Maniacal.
