My Bultacos

Here's my '75 Metralla GT. I've had it for over 40 years now and it was regularly street ridden until a few years ago when I set it up for land speed racing at Lake Gairdner here in Australia. First pic is how it looks now in LSR trim, next one is in street trim along with my Sherpa T and a friends Montesa Cota.

I found you John! Lovely bike. These old two stroke singles have such nice looking engines. I had a 1975 DT400 for a while when I lived in Australia and that thing was fun. Not quite the same class as the Bultacos but similar looking head fin design at least. Any idea how much power this bike is putting down?

In street trim with the air cooled 370 it made low to mid 50s. In LSR trim with water-cooled 350 it makes 75 to 80 odd.

Wow, that is impressive. I bet it weighs very little as well. 50hp for a 370cc 4-stroke aircooled single is a pipe dream, so 2-strokes will always have the upper hand here But 80hp with water cooling is just insane

Not really insane for a fairly recent engine - the water cooled engine uses a Rotax cylinder - it isn't even super highly tuned. To put it in perspective the Aprilia 125cc GP bikes made over 55hp, the 500s were around 200hp and the 250s were around 100hp. I miss two stroke GP racing.

In street trim the Metralla weighed around 115kg from memory. It was a habitual wheelstander.
