To remove hub studs before Powder...or not??

Alllllright I decided to nut up or shut up and just press them out already. The only thing I was super certain of was to find a socket that perfectly fit because the metal sleeve is pretty thin-walled. They pressed out and cleaned up with a brass wire wheel pretty nicely. I'll throw them in...

To remove hub studs before Powder...or not??

Thanks for the thorough comment. Certainly, the wheel bearings and o-rings and everything else will be stripped before dropping off at the powder coaters. It's shaft drive, and the splind hub is what attaches to the studs in the image. My only concern is the rubber bushing that the studs are...

To remove hub studs before Powder...or not??

I'd like your opinions, please. The wheel I'm using is from an 84 Virago and is shaft driven. As you can see in the pic, the studs that bolt the wheel's drive hub on are pressed in to the wheel and contain rubber. Ideally, of course, I would press them out before dropping it off at the powder...

Gouging the cylinder head - salvageable? Cam question as well

Thanks for the replies everyone. I appreciate the direction and advice. I ended up just grabbing another head off ebay for $40. I just don't want, after painting and rebuilding and everything, to have a head gasket leak and have to drop the engine again. Not worth the risk for me when it's...

Gouging the cylinder head - salvageable? Cam question as well

That's what I was thinking about the cams. Now I wonder where the heck I can get replacement cams for an 82 virago 920!?

Gouging the cylinder head - salvageable? Cam question as well

So i'm refreshing an 82 virago 920 and, because i'm an idiot, gouged the cylinder head while pulling out a stuck dowel pin. You can see the outline of where the circular head gasket sits...right on the largest of the gouges. Is this thing salvageable or should I just order a used one off ebay...

    Where to source oversize piston/rings?

ok, turns out my cylinder was already bored to 1 over! The problem is that Honda didn't make anything bigger, and nobody makes any aftermarket pistons for these little thumpers. It was burning a little oil in the cylinder before (some white smoke) and the piston skirt measured in below allowable...

    Cylinder dowel o-ring placement?

Thanks for the info! the o-ring doesn't fit snugly around the dowel, that's why I asked. I'll mess around with it and see what I can do. Thanks again.

    Cylinder dowel o-ring placement?

2nd new thread of the day, at least i'm staying busy! Take a look at the parts diagram for a '75 Honda XL100: That o-ring...Is there only 1 on that dowel, or are there 3 (one for each dowel)? Do I put the dowel in the cylinder, then the o-ring around the dowel, then put the cyl. head on? I...
