Hey Tim. Was wondering if you had posted that "perfect jetting" anywhere for your XS650. I'm looking for a good baseline to start at with my VMs on my stock XS (with pods).
Thanks.
That's great info, I may have overlooked those pistons.
But perhaps I should clarify, I was planning on buying new pistons to go along with these newer rods that I'll be buy off an old '77 (447) parts bike . I thought about possibly buying the 750 kit they have on MikesXS, as long as the '77...
Hey folks! I have a 1973 Yamaha TX650
Does anyone here know if the crank and head from my '73 (256 modal?), would work with the rod and piston from a '77 (447 modal).
It's my understanding that just the rod and piston was changed in '74 with the 447 modal engines.
I'm desperately trying to...
Wow, Xulf! Thanks so much for that offer! I might just have to take you up on that when the weather turns for the worse!
Getting ready to start purchasing the pieces soon.
Montessa, it's good to know there are so many fellow XS/TX riders out there!
I hear ya Pro! I'm still a few months away from this project.. So for now, I ride!
Thanks for the words of wisdom! I'm hoping the cam chain isn't too much of a challenge.
Honestly I haven't taken my top end apart yet, so until I do, I won't really know what I'm looking for, lol.
I was doing the math.. And minus the tool, plus the labor, I may be sitting at about $450.
Which is still cheaper than the $650+ for the big bore kit.. Granted, I'm not getting as many CCs out of it.
Still saving $$$. ;D
Hopefully I can find a way to get that cam chain on without buying the...
Wow, Thanks for that. I guess that doesn't surprise me since it's over 35 years old!
I guess an extra $32 wont hurt too much.
I'm noticing though, on Mikesxs.com, they are saying the 2nd over pistons and the rings sets don't fit the '73.
Seems to me that it shouldn't matter since I'm getting it...
That's very good to know! That's pretty much how I feel.. Though it may be because I ride with a V-Rod and a 1600cc Victory and a dude on a GSXR 600.. Amongst other Harley riders.. Haha. I have the smallest displacement out of most of them. Not to mention the oldest engine.
I'll have to check...
Thanks for all this knowledge! It's great to hear!
I'm thinking I might just have to do a one or two up on the bore this winter.. Even a simple rebuild to stock would improve it I'm sure.
The compression was about 115 give or take a few.. And that was after many many kicks. I do have highway...
