Newbie from Metro Phoenix - (although registered since 2014!!?!)

Hey guys. I'll just do a brief intro here and dive into other project threads. Phoenix Metro area, SW USA. Mature rider with roughly half a million 2 wheeled miles behind me. Most on Japanese, but lots of British stuff in the 70's.

Currently have a shop full of bikes:
'75 CB750K5 - latest acquisition, fine example (cafe'd for now)
'78 CB750F - Needs restoration. On the back shelf
'78 GL1000 hot rod (don't laugh, was a labor of love and gets tons of comments)
'79 CBX Custom hot rod (purchased from orig owner who had MANY of them. This was his last. He's in his early 80s)
'82 CX500 Turbo (very needy but all there)
'83 Kawasaki Voyager - (Used to be a Voyager), now nekkid, Zyphyr tank, Shadow tail Dyna seat.
'85, '86 '90 Vmax(s) Yes, three. The '86 is a forever bike, the other two just passing through
'97 Valkyrie Bumblebee Tourer (bumblebees were only Std OEM, I converted it)

I like this joint because it spans a spectrum of machines and approaches to configuring them. Few (if any are original). I like that. Pretty much nothing I ever have stays "original". Blasphemous? Bah.

Nice collection! Hope the tires aren't melting in the Phoenix heat. I expect to be there in September for a few days (working with Cable One on a project).

Haha. I'm an Art teacher by trade, so I can't help myself. They call the airheads "rubber cows", and I had to go make it as abstract as possible.

My son flips bikes on the side, so i have ridden more bikes now since he has some cool stuff coming through. he just sold a pair of Honda V65 Magnas a few months back, tried to convince him to keep one, but to no avail. If i didnt have my goldwing project, then i would have gotten one for myself.
I like your 'Wing, mine is a mess right now, '86 GL1200A stripped down, and going through wiring. will be something cool in the next year or so.

I can tell you from experience that stripping a dressed motorcycle down to the lowest common denominator is no picnic. The 1200 Aspencade is especially tough - mainly due to a couple of hurdles: all the 1200's have the shelter side covers that flow into the fairing that look horrible once the fairing is gone. Easier to source alternate shelter skins. Also, the 1200A had digital instruments. You'll need to re-invent that.

My experience stripping a dresser was/is with a 1300-6 cylinder Kawasaki Voyager. Still working on that one. Runs great, but has an intermittent contact in the "computer". Zephyr tank, Shadow tail, Harley seat ... and a couple hundreds pounds lighter:

Yeah, I have got a GL1100 shelter. My original.plan was to make a low cover from plate metal that made it look "tankless", but I don't know that I can move everything in there to somewhere else. My biggest hurdle right now really is wiring. Then I can work on suspensions and finalize my handlebars. Then it should be rideable, but have more work on the rear of the bike and lighting. I have a huge, that I hope I can get all the functions out of.
