'84 SR250 Garage build.

A few parts arrived yesterday such as the air filter for the carb and the new jets. It only just fits behind the frame. The filter needs to be mounted to the carb before the carb is mounted to the engine.

Neat little filter. Do you remember where you got your tail loop from? I've had a quick scroll through eBay but most things seem slightly too wide or skinny.

The current "loop" is two right angle sections of a pallet jacks handle. I didn't have much cash when I first did it and had to grab what I could from the scrap bin at work. Not so much a loop. I do however plan to change the rear of the frame once I decide on a new seat.
If I do.. might just get the current one made the way I had intended from the start.

The new bars arrived this afternoon so I took the opportunity to throw a few of the new parts on before I strip the whole thing down to paint the frame.

Starting to look a bit more like what I had in mind. A lot of fine tuning to go though.

The new cheap seat arrived today.
Looks like I need to cut off the rear and make a new loop. It doesn't mount quite as far forward as I had thought.
I would also like the fender a bit further towards the rear.

Sitting back and looking at it I think the headlight needs to be a bit lower.
Slowly getting there. I also bought a 2.8mm wiring kit and have been replacing/upgrading the wiring harness as needed. Removed some redundant wires associated with the starter cut off circut and safety relay. Both of which I have never seen or needed.

Haha I went the ol' eBay seat route, doesn't have the diagonal stitching but fits pretty similar. I had to cut a bit of the base off the front and I'll have to make a decent bracket to fix it under the tank properly. We seem at similar stages but none will be way slower and suckier.

Hello
How did you managed to fit that seat so close to the frame?
I had a huge gap:

so I have sold it and trimmed the original seat :)

I really like that air filter. I think the seat/Rfender/Rear mini light combination you have there goes very nicely together.

The seat fits close as the rear of the frame had been cut off before I bought the bike. I had a new section of frame added then had a seat made to suite.
Going to have to do it again but this time the frame will be made to match the seat.

The new rear sprocket arrived yesterday and I did a quick overlay picture to show the difference. Need to order some new chain now to suit.
Getting closer to the strip down so that I can sort the frame out and start painting.

The stock rear is a 46t. So mid point between these two. The black one is the 40t I put on originally to try and get a better top speed.
The new silver one is a 51t which should see the bike top out at 110kph but have globs of torque in every gear.

How did it do with the 40T? Did it cruise decent at 100-120kph?

From what I remember it was fine up to 120. Struggled a bit after that but would get to 130. Keep in mind I am 6'1 and 110kg so the little 250 isn't built with me in mind.

That's pretty darned good. Here in Salem, with the Traffic Clowns moving in by the busloads, one can rarely see 110kph, so I was considering uping the counter-shaft sprocket from 16T to 17T for reduced rpm at cruise. That's less aggressive than the 16T/40T combo, so that's encouraging. (I'm one of those people that doesn't like to run out of top-gear, looking for sixth!)
Thank you for the response!

I don't plan to go much over 90kph on this thing. It will be a daily run about to get me to work and back as well as a bit of fun with the sprocket combo.

Most of the good riding roads near me are in the mountains so you can only really get up to 80kph.

It should definitely ZIP!

Not much of an update. Just had a week off work to catch up on things at home. Finally got a bit of time to get into the shed and work on this bike.
I had bought a hoop to weld to the tail a little while ago. Managed to get it trimmed down and stuck on today. Just need to cut some plate to add mounts for the seat and rear fender to attach to.

Nice bit of clearance between the frame and the tyre so I am happy there. The seat does sit a little tall where the frame changes angle but being a cheap Chinese unit I am sure the plastic will stretch and conform a bit after having ridden it for a while.

Now I need to start on the electrical tray and battery mount.

Frame hoop looks good man, glad you got some time from work to catch your breathe

That looks factory! Like it was meant to be that way! Question: The plate where the top of the shocks bolt to.... is that 1/4"?
