Haha yeah the body is definitely kid sized. Lenny is 4, and I think this one will get him through maybe 2 seasons. After that, ill have to put in a more full size body of some sort.
Alright, lots of little bits finished up that do not look significantly different from the last post, but its enough to call the main bit of fab work done. I got the final swingarm finished up. Its all made out of 3/16" thick steel. Much more rigid than the mockup one.
Got all of the hardware...
Thanks fellas. Got some bracing fabbed and welded out some bracing. Going to fab up a heavier swingarm as the test ride tweaked the flimsy mockup piece.
Got it welded together enough for a test ride. I rode around the lot behind my house and while it needs additional stiffeners (which I was always planning to add) it handles as well as I would expect. Don't really know it's there. Did a rip around the block on it too and it behaved well enough...
Getting some fab work done for the outside frame rail/ suspension mount for the sidecar. The swing arm plates and shock mount plates are just mockup to check my geometry and the final bits will be made out of more suitable size material.
yeah I do have a couple of lids for him already, a 3/4 for when re ride the sl70 around and a full face for the snowmobile. Ill end up building a bombers style aluminum seat I think, which will get padding over it and a 4 or 5 point harness installed.
Thanks man. I had this idea in the back of my head for a while. I hadnt been able to find anyone who has used one yet surprisingly as they seem to lend themselves well to a kids size hack body. Maybe its because they arent big enough for an adult as well?
Thanks man,
And not dumb at all. I am picking up another head pipe to modify. The plan is to route the cone muffler under the seat area and pointed out the other side above the chain. I too have severe hearing loss (at 32 years old) and have no desire for Lenny to go down that same road.
Thanks Mike! I'm hoping he enjoys it.
And I just picked this up today. Found it on marketplace about 15 minutes from work. It's a super stock class soap box derby racer body. Should be about the right size for Lenny up until at least middle school. It's too small for an adult, but that's not...
Thanks Buddy. It will tuck in closer to the bike a bit more than it shows in the picture, maybe a couple of inches, but that is a "down fall" of a leaner over a fixed hack design is that you have to have more clearance for the lean towards the hack.
I also have a line on a neat body that I may...
Still piddling away on this thing.
I made up a set of collars and spacers to accept a set of high speed bearings with a 3/4" bore instead of the small stock units. The swingarm will likely just have one stud coming out so it needed to have a pretty stout axle.
I also finished boxing and and...
Thanks fellas.
Got the bulk of the mockup chassis done today. Still have to finish machining the split collar clamps. It looks bulky but it's sub 20 lbs. Turned out neat looking even though it'll likely end up as scrap by the end of the project lol
Did a bit of work today. I'm probably posting pictures too soon for it to really look like much of anything, but I decided to make a temporary chassis to do some testing on this thing. So much of this is new to me as I've never ridden a hack setup at all, specifically a leaner, and mounting one...
Yeah those are valid. Of course mine will have a smaller wheel and an enclosed fender on it. Likely a windshield of some type too. Heck it may end up looking nothing like that at all haha
