Tommy, if it were me I would give it a light sanding with something around 400 grit first. Be sure after you sand to clean it well and make sure there is no dust or other particulate on the surface before folowing up with you next coat.

I am down with the origami tee, there have also been a few others that I would like to rock on a tee, but I would have to go back through them all to get the ones that I would like the best, but right off the top of my head the gas pump one would be great.
