Glad I logged in today and saw this thread! It kinda reminds me of how I started on my bike. I bought an engine in frame 72 CB500 and instead of getting it going before I finished blowing all apart, I just took it to pieces. Most of the bike was in boxes or just zip tied to the frame. I had...
After looking at this thread again, if I were you, I'd put some sort of Virago logo on that tank, because no one is going to believe that was once a virago! (except for the obvious virago motor :) )
Basically, I just PM'ed him telling him to set a date to get his money back from the guy. If he doesn't comply, then go to the magistrate in the county the transaction took place and attempt to swear out a warrant for theft by deception or theft by conversion (charges we have in GA).
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - The Leaky Botch (Pg. 31)
So, I'm thinking I have a name for my Bike; "The Leaky Bitch."
While working on her the past couple of times, I've noticed drops of oil on the ground under her. After messing around with the clutch adjustment, I thought the oil was coming from...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
Caferay, I hear you! Especially with what I do for a living. But I'd like to touch a ton on it at least once!
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
Been awhile since I've been able to get on here and post.
Gotta love old bikes huh? Not the last time I rode it, but the time before that, the bike was running a little rough. It felt like the timing was off a touch and it was...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
Yeah! I can drive a manual transmission in a car no problem. I wasn't thinking when I was on the bike because I was paying more attention to cars and not getting flattened. LOL I am actually really afraid of over revving it when I...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
I only kicked her up to the 70 MPH range. It was a short run back to my house with some nice sweeping curves, and me without bunches of experience. But I don't doubt she will do the ton no problems. I'm going to wait until I get...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
I'm feeling kinda foolish now. Actually, not kinda; I'm feeling very foolish.
So, I am a novice rider, this being my first bike ever. On top of that, I don't get much occasion to drive any vehilces with manual transmissions (as much...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
I'm pretty sure its on all 4. The plugs were just changed out. The bike was running very rich before being rejeted (had 120s in it if I remember correctly) and the plugs were looking fouled.
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
Thanks guys for all of the suggestions of things to look at.
mydlyfkryzis: You aren't raising any hackles here! When I originally bought the bike, my plans were to run velocity stacks, and it turned out the bike didn't have an...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
115 Main jets, 42 pilot jets
NGK D8ES or D7ES plugs (probobly went just hotter than stock)
No other mods
As for, "and its jetted as correctly as you can get in these conditions," I mean, without the air box and with a very free...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Question about top speed... (Pg. 29)
Its got a big diameter Yoshimora replica exhaust on it with very little baffle to it. Its running velocity stacks with screens on the ends, and its jetted as correctly as you can get in these conditions. There is a little low end...
Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Oil Vapor? (Pg. 28)
Hey guys,
I'm wondering; where abouts should a 1972 CB500 thats running smoothly top out? I've got a really big bore exhaust and velocity stacks on this bike. The spedometer indicated I was topped out somewhere in the 60 MPH area. Is this normal...
