Spent two days (well, maybe four hours total) cleaning the front wheel. Hope it is Ok to clean minor surface rust off of the cad platec spokes. Miced less than .01mm removed. The rim is DID. Also went out and started the tractor. Forecast for Friday is 3"-4", but that is a lot in these Southern...

Wire harness cleaned of road grime as well as the shelter frame and front upper engine mount tin. Also, had the final PT on my shoulder today. Should be good-to-go, although slowly as it gains strength.

All handlebar control lines and switches tested (a couple repaired). Also all of the idiot lights and gauge illumination (those that need brightness changed to LED). Replaced the decayed gauge mounting ring with layers of single-side closed-cell thin foam weather striping tape - 3 wraps. Gauge...

Powder coat or paint a frame

If concerned with original - paint. If concerned with snob appeal - powder coat. Either done properly will last well. Either done poorly will easily chip off. 2K being the best for paint, but I use Rustoleum Appliance with 2K clear over it.

Bought some long 1/2” shrink tubing from Harbor Freight (only place I could find a long piece and not have to buy 100 ft). Fed left control wires through it, cut to length, and shrunk it down. Rubbed down the tubing with talc to lube it. Then, snaked it into the left side of the new Emgo CB750...

Back at it! July 3rd the prostate was pulled. September 4th the AC joint was drilled and tied up. Been doing PT since. Today, ortho said I am free to lift carefully and work on the bike. Today, both the speedo and tach faces were renewed, plus the speedo lube thinned out for it to start working...

    Budget Time-sert kit

No, but it was pretty simple to grind off to the end of the taper. Make sure you keep it cooled well to prevent over-softening the steel.

Yeah, head gaskets are pretty common replacements. I suggest filling the coolant system on an unknown with just water first. I've had a couple just pour out due to bad gaskets. An easy fix and I didn't loose all of that anti freeze.

Accumulated over a decade, some from ebay, many vendors still selling (4into1, partsnmore). Pete is pretty complete, and I've already done the carbs. Pistons, rings, internal bearings are fairly unobtainium. Luckily, I've never needed to split a case on a GL1000 (except a junker that I knew was...

Thanks, folks! Think I'm past most of the worst pain (except 3 days a week PT torture). Working on healing and range of motion for the first few months. In the garage, working on cleaning up the wiring harness.

Both surgeries done. Will probably be this time next year doing rehab on both. Hope to resume light work (electrical harnesses, etc.) Early 2025. The shoulder (yesterday) requires you to be very careful to avoid set-back while still making progress in rehab.

Post a pic of your latest purchase

Hope that works out for you. I was going through rears on the GL1800 way too fast until I took it to the dark side. Too bad they don't make a car tire to fit the 1000.

Appreciate everyone's support. Looks like I might be getting ready to have my "man gland" removed then.

The engine is assembled and setting up-side down on a dolly, rolled under the workbench. Other things boxed up. Looks like I'll need prostate surgery in May, then might as well get the AC joint strung together in July. That will pretty much lay me up until Fall at least.

Well, I have the new head gasket in hand. And ONE of the idler bearings. I had ordered two at the same time from Amazon, but one came USPS today and the other is setting ~10 miles away at the UPS hub. Bother. Anyway, re-tapped the block, ran the bolts over the wire wheel in the drill press. The...

Spent over five hours today getting the head gasket cement off of the head and block. They even used whatever they used on the head gasket on the water elbow gasket. Stuff reminded me of a sealer that we were forbidden to use on steam flanges in the Navy called Copaltite. Along with being and...
