1970 VW Bus - Westfalia Resto

January 2025. Passenger side. I bought the Klokkerholm garbage years ago and dreaded installing these. Wanted to buy better parts, but decided I'd try to make it work. What a pain in the ass. First I cut apart the outer piece because the lap joint just looks awful, and butt welded it back...

    CB 360 Seats

Bolt on, your best option would be to use the stock pan, re-shape the foam and re-cover it. Any ebay generic seat will require modification and possibly some light fabrication to fit.

    1975 BMW R90/6 - Rocinante

Flap wheels do remove metal, and as such will leave flat spots on the tubing, so I would not recommend. Wire wheel like doc mentioned might be the ticket.

I use Miles Gel powder coat remover. Expensive but I’ve stripped plenty of parts and a bunch of paint from the bus and still have half a gallon https://www.removepowdercoatpaint.com/products Sent from my iPhone using DO THE TON

    Restoration of a 74 RD350

I recommend replacing only the rubber/paper gaskets and cleaning & reusing the brass parts. Typically the jets that come in those rebuild kits are junk.

1970 VW Bus - Westfalia Resto

That's the plan. All the rust that I can see will/has been repaired and I'll do everything I can to prevent any further. If I wasn't planning on keeping it around it probably would've gotten scrapped ;)

1970 VW Bus - Westfalia Resto

Around March 2023, I had started digging around the driver's side dogleg and decided to pitch the klokker panels I had bought and spend some coin on the KF full dogleg. The bottom of the seat pedestal was pretty shot as well, but more on that later. Out it came after I drilled out 900 spot...

1970 VW Bus - Westfalia Resto

Finished cleaning up the donor nose, blasted it, epoxy primer and a couple coats o white. Tacked it in, test fit the doors. Looked good. Finished up the welds and we have a front end again. Don't be fooled it was 5 years from when I cut the nose off until this point...the magic of the...

    XS650 Future Bob

More parts acquiring. Got a set of 18/19 wheels laced to high shoulder rims from @Hurco550 which should help move the build along significantly. He also hand delivered the freshly cut cylinders from Mototech. Most of my time is going towards the Westy right now so I can get it in paint before...

1970 VW Bus - Westfalia Resto

With that done, time to tackle the frame. First, I had to cut out a bunch of pieces to get the frame cut back far enough to tie in. I wanted the splice to be behind the triangle gusset for added strength. The sheet metal flange that mounted to the nose was pretty rusty, so I decided to cut...

    Engine metal sealer?

I used a cotton diaper. Lol. Bought a pack on amazon for $10 or so. Q-tips for in between the fins. Motor looks great.

1970 VW Bus - Westfalia Resto

Fast forward to about 2023, with the bus in its new home, I set out to finish repairing the nose. The outer skin was in pretty rough shape from first being shipped to me, then being (not quite so carefully) transported across the country by yours truly, and I decided to cut it off. I was going...

    Engine metal sealer?

Sharkhide. Many folks here can vouch for it and I used it on the Guzzi restoration.

1970 VW Bus - Westfalia Resto

Time to revive this thread. I've been chipping away over the past few years but a big move, and first kid put the bus on the backburner. Bear with me, its going to take a while to find all the pics from the past five years and organize everything. Let's travel back to the end of summer of 2019...
