    Sumotrack rebuild

Picked up a cheap locked up motor. Mainly wanted the crank out of it. Got the pistons freed, torethe motor all the way down, split its crank and the spare crank. Modified one crank piece so that I can build up a true 270* motor. I don't know if it'll end up in this bike, orthe one in my shed.

I'm saving for big parts, tank, rims and spokes, engine rebuild, so to keep moving forward I can do things like this. I picked up an english wheel a while back so maybe next I'll start working on fenders. I have some aluminum that'll work.

Made new pins to go with the new linkage. I scrapped 3 drilling the cotter pin hole. The 1.2mm drills are fragile, they worked better when I moved the mill to it's max speed of a little over 2000rpm.

Thanks, I know I could have found something that would have worked, but I enjoy making parts. The added bonus is unless someone looks real close these will look OEM.

Thanks, sometimes you just have to put in the effort since old parts aren't always available.

That's the reason for the new ones. You can see how rusty the original is. The other original one broke. So new parts it is.

No updates at the moment. HVAC for the house took priority for cash and time. Had to break out the old condenser slab, cut roots out and redo it. Then all new system, installed with an air purifier. Wife has bad allergies and the purifier was cheap. Overall not terrible, but $6k I wasn't...

Vapor blasted the rear hub to get ready for polishing. It's much easier to get an acceptable level of polish when you start with a consistent finish.

Not much to update at the moment. I've been busy getting quotes on a few big things I need for the house. HVAC is having issues and is over 30yrs old, breaker box needs an upgrade, and sewer line is getting roots in it. I was hoping to have longer between paying off the truck and replacing...

Thanks guys. I'm not worried about the guy's complaints. Having ridden everything from stock vintage bikes to ducatis, supermotos, and sportbikes I'll stick with what I said earlier, it's not hard to make a vintage bike handle better than it did. Modern shocks and forks are a massive...

A few thoughts about the DTT community

This forum was significantly busier 5+ years ago. Xs650.com still gets a decent amount of traffic. A lot has moved over to facebook. As for the generational divide, most boomers are pretty chill, same with gen X. Millennials seems to be split, the older ones are more similar to gen x having...

No, I don't. But patterns for engine plates are different. Especially since the article goes into details on how a person could cut the plates without a bandsaw.

Yeah, the triumph swingarm pivot was not the most rigid. A cast piece only mounted to a single round tube.

On a historical note people building tritons in the 60s was popular enough that a magazine had motor plate patterns in an issue.
