73 XL250 - My first build: College runner.

Re: 73 XL250 - My first bike build: College runner. Started to rebuild the rear wheel. The spokes and nipples were so badly rusted that I had to cut them out. pulled all the bearings and stripped the hub. The bearings were actually in pretty good shape but I ordered new dust seals and brake...

73 XL250 - My first build: College runner.

Re: 73 XL250 - My first bike build: College runner. The first thing to do for the front end swap was switch out both of the stems. Since the 250 has a smaller head tube, the 350 stem won't fit. Sanded the welds flush and pressed out both stems. Then machined a 3/4in tube to slip over the...

Re: 73 XL250 - My first bike build: College runner. Thanks dude I will do my best to keep everything updated! As of now as far as upgrades from stock it is just the front end and cutting the seat up. I haven't decided if i want to dig into the motor and bump up the compression.

Re: 73 XL250 - My first bike build: College runner. Next was usual tear down. I couldn't believe the amount of spray paint that one of the previous owners put to this thing. Also, I built a little table to make working on the bike easier.

73 XL250 - My first build: College runner.

Parking at my college is a real bitch and it pissed me off that the motorcycle parking is front row and only a few kids ride bikes to school. So i decided it was time to build my first bike. I was cruising pipe burn and came across Jake73's 250 build (see photo below). I knew right then that was...
