    $300 '79 Yamaha XS1100

Went to pick up a rough '81 Midnight Special for a cafe bike this morning and decided on this '79 instead, with title. Won't start but I think it's too nice to chop up, what do you think?

    Relocating Twinstar Coil

Is there any reason not to relocate the coil to the downtube if I make a little rock/rain shield for it? I can't think of any issues and the plug wires still reach the plugs. It won't fit in to stock location with the new tank.

    16ga or 18ga for '78 CM185

The stripper/cutters have the gauge and you be measuring the copper, not the insulation.

Re: 1978 Honda Twinstar CM185t: The Black Pearl

Trek97 I appreciate the offer, you should talk to Michael but he doesn't have a place to put it at the moment, maybe you guys can make a plan for when he gets out of school. I spoke to him last night and he's doing great btw. It's a great bike, beautiful build, well done.

Re: 1978 Honda Twinstar CM185t: The Black Pearl

Thanks for the muffler input everyone, and great looking GL Maritime. I ordered a 2nd swingarm yesterday so I can stretch mine 2" with the help of a professional welder buddy . I think the whole bike will look better a longer wheelbase and a byproduct will be making the exhaust look a little...

    16ga or 18ga for '78 CM185

Most of the wiring (lights, rectifier, starter switch, etc...) on our 6volt CM185 seem to measure 18ga, does that sounds right or too small? Also, if I swap for a 12v engine will 18ga be okay or would I want 16ga for all the low amp wires? Thanks

Re: 1978 Honda Twinstar CM185t: The Black Pearl

It's pretty tight on the left side too though, the kickstand is already on the muffler. If I bend the muffler mounts inward more I might get a little extra room to move them forward.

Nighthawk 250 to Twinstar Engine Swap?

It looks like the Twinstar 185 engine mounts pretty much match your Nighthawk measurements... it's still mounted in the bike but it looks like my crude measuerments are very close to yours Rider52. I was looking at an early '90s no title 250 Nighthawk for the engine, but since then I found a...

Re: 1978 Honda Twinstar CM185t: The Black Pearl

The thing is they pass through very limited space so if I move the tapered mufflers forward they just get bigger at the pinch point. In this pic you can see the brake lever is right up against the pipe already. I looked for months but couldn't find any shorter mufflers at 1.375" inlet and...

Nighthawk 250 to Twinstar Engine Swap?

Awesome, thanks for that. Both engines use the same bottom end so the Twinstar also uses the cradle front mount. I'm guessing a swap will likely work out. I'll check the Twinstar dimensions and report back.

Nighthawk 250 to Twinstar Engine Swap?

Will the '90s Nitghthawk 250 engine swap to the early Twinstars? They seem to have the same mounting points and I'd be happy to swap an engine and harness to gain the 12volt electrics. From what I've read the Rebel 250 has the same mounting points but the sprocket has the wrong offset (or...
