I have run them on similar bikes. No matter what you do, you need to make the intake boot the same size as the carb venturi if you want full flow from them. I would try some accelerator pump type carbs.

Does that mean that you had done of few runs prior to that where you had maintained rpms above 6000? Since the oil does cool the engine, and the faster an engine goes, the more friction is generated, thereby increasing its cooling requirements, its likely that had you sustained rpm of maybe...

Yes, thanks for the info but I was aware of damage that can be caused by that and have been turning the fuel valves off on my bikes since around 1968.
