Yamaha SR500 build

The bike is finished...or is it? You are never done! Although it may look done, there is some tweaks and tuning that is ahead of me. Right now...I am pretty happy how it came out. I finished in May and just started riding it. This is how it looked May 5th at the Quail show.

I am thrilled to read your post...I have the exact bike in probably the exact same condition as yours was in when I got it. I am also getting ready to dig into her. Mine has a nice dent the tank and front fender (which need replacing) but the rest is quite stock..which is kind of the way I may...

540 kit, 38mm roundslide carb, 520 chain...this will be a reliable combination to generate some fun power to the rear wheel when I want it.

Got the stator back...looks purdy. I'm wanting to get the motor together...this might be my motivation. [/img][IMG]

here is one on a SR500..looks like he made a mount that the LED strip fits its inside of and attached it to the seat hoop from the outside.

I have a strip that I was going to use, but attaching them with glue or tie straps was the only way...glue may not hold with the vibration of the SR and tie straps didn't provide the look I was after. Take your seat Hoop, and cut a groove in the back of it so that the LED strip fits inside...

are you mounting the stock light or something aftermarket? Round, oval, LED strip? Look at the bottom of my page to see what I did if that helps. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=69557.15

I thought I'd share some more shots of the bike....I have a problem with the rear hoop as it's too close to the rear tire after we welded it on, so I needed a different solution....so this is what we decided... The seat lines up nicely to the tail light.

    Yamaha SR500 build

Thought I'd post a few on the front end.. I decided on using the 1999/2000 Yamaha R6 forks since this seemed like a fairly easy enhancement...I saw them first on a TT500 Flat Track bike and thought they bolted right up...I was wrong again! But since I wanted a modern SR500 with fully adjustable...

    Yamaha SR500 build

I know how you feel...it's easy to get started on something..it's equally as easy to get distracted; I do it all the time. I just sent my stator out for rewind.. $275 for this work but it will be one less thing to worry about. Good Luck!

Thank you Hillsy... I knew that when I bought it. They make it quite clear when I told them my application. I'm not concerned. Cheers!

That is a good tip...mine is dis-assembled (it wasn't easy), now I need to send it out. Thanks!

    Yamaha SR500 build

I did the same thing...collected a bunch of parts before I got going on it. The Wheels...Rear Cush hub from a Yamaha WR450 (a cush drive hub is a must; no matter what anyone tells you), KTM rim; Front is Excell Rim and RAD Hubs, 245mm rear rotor; after further research, I could have used a...

Those forks are stock 1999-2000 Yamaha R6. The triple clamps are custom made to fit the SR500. The R6 fork tubes are 43mm and the stock SR500 are 32mm (if memory serves me) so I needed yokes that would work. I also sent a stock SR500 triple clamps to have a stock size stem fabricated so it would...

Good to know since Motogadget stuff is quite pricey...and my custom gauge are some feature items for this bike and wasn't cheap either but I think it will be quite rewarding.
