help with seat options for my kz750?

The thread below has some helpful info, http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=23582.10 Though if you were looking for something really simple, I like the look of the stock rear fender on the KZ750 so you could just remove the old foam and vinyl seat covering. Then add on a thinner but...

    cutting frame

Like Von said it really depends on if there was anything rigid helping tie the back of the bike together. I did something similar to my KZ550 with seemingly no adverse affects, the only thing on the back end was a thin piece of sheet metal to support the rear fender and taillight. I have planned...

    Interchangeable seats?

I did something similar to what others said because I was worried about what I would do if I had a removable piece. I made a sheet metal sheet and then used the passenger pad to add a little style to the boxy looking seat. My only complaint is that I made my pad a little to narrow so...

    78 kz400 cafe build

Those turned out really nice. The bevels definitely enhance the look and add to the beefiness.

    78 kz400 cafe build

I'd say leave them big but put some nice big fillets on the areas that aren't structural to give it a nice flowing and strong look, especially if you are planning on running the stock curvy tank.

    78 kz400 cafe build

I wish I had a mill with the cool vises and tools... I have used them before but I don't have unlimited access for my projects. When I finish the dual front disc conversion Ill start a thread on it, I just havent had the time with a camera to take any glamour shots ;D

    78 kz400 cafe build

For the clip-ons, it might be hard to machine in a downward angle for the bars, since that is probably what will be more comfortable. Depending on your machining equipment it could be quite simple, I have machined some parts with crazy angles in them on a manual mill before with nothing other...

    Making a Speedo face?

Theoretically, it should work well. I think if you have a good CAD or photoshopping software it shouldn't be too hard to work from a template. It might take a few attempts to get right but you can test it with a buddy down an empty street or by finding a local speed trap sign (i've used these...

Carb Tuning Help - Have symptoms need a cure

So I have a 81 KZ550 the exhaust is pretty much a straight thru 4-2 w/o a crossover, and i now have pods because the old filter was shit. Now to the symptoms: - i get some pretty decent backfire while closed throttle decelerating above about 5500 rpms - if you rapidly open the throttle to full...

Well crap, need some electrical advice (near garage fire, pics included)

i think your best bet is to find a wiring diagram online, im sure there is one floating around here the item you wear point to looks like the rectifier but i cant say for certain if you did accidentally hook a negative to the positive terminal it is possible that you screwed up your rectifier...

    1976 KZ400 Cafe Transformation - Almost finished

Re: 1976 KZ400 Cafe Transformation (First Motorcycle) -Just Drilled My Rotor i would recommend lightly sanding the holes with something like 80-120 grit sandpaper because you want them sharp so they work better but you don't want burs on the holes if that doesn't work though grab something...

    Opinions for two-up seat idea

another idea i had was to make something similar to a modern sport bike seat since my thank is square-ish i though i could make a flat top bump and put a pad on it something like this, with the top inch or so pad and in a vinyl that matched the color of the bike which im planning on painting white

    Speedo and Tach Calibration/Check

so i checked my speed on a radar the police set up on a local street today and the speedo checks out but while i was roadtripping a little i brought up the bike to near the top end in 6th gear and i watched the needle approach redline (10,000 rpm) and then bounce back and forth between 8,000 and...

    1976 KZ400 Cafe Transformation - Almost finished

Re: 1976 KZ400 Cafe Transformation (First Motorcycle) Idk about the acid bit, but a TiN drill will go through steel pretty easily as long as you drill slowly and use either wd-40 or some old motor oil as a lubricant... on a side note why do you want to drill your motor?
