    1980 GS550E + 2000 Katana 750

I ended up selling this bike to my friend. He fiddled with it while he was healing from his moto accident and got it running, but tuning the carbs was being a PITA, so he installed some flat slides. On the dyno, it made 86 RWHP and 45 lb/ft TQ. He said, in his experience, on his dyno, that's...

    1981 XS650 Tracker

The only other thing I may do is look for a slimmer style brake master cylinder. What's the latest on bolt on caliper/rotor upgrades these days? Maybe a slotted rotor from an 850 and a bracket to adapt a modern caliper?

I need a gas cap, and I'm not the biggest fan of that style of pods. Otherwise, I don't plan on changing much all.

    1981 XS650 Tracker

Been out of the vintage bike game for a while now. And the last several bikes I did were SOHC4 Honda's. It's been a LOOOONG minute since I messed with an XS650. I have a friend who is moving out of the country and offered me a deal that I just couldn't turn down on this XS650. He had clip on...

    1980 GS550E + 2000 Katana 750

Here we are, nearly a year later, and I'm finally getting this thing on the dyno for some tuning. It's just been sitting ever since my last post. I really hope it won't take much to dial it in. Any guesses on the numbers she puts down? 2000 GSX-750F BST 36 carbs, DynoJet stage 3, RamAir...

    90's CB500 build

Very nice. Looks like a factory update/refresh. And I mean that in a good way.

Honda CB "sweep the floor" project, AKA: The Hippy Bike

The rectangular mirrors went on because they were free, but all I could see was my elbows. Installed a vintage style bar end mirror today. Only $19 shipped and now I can see behind me while keeping a bit of the vintage vibe. It's really cloudy today, so pics kinda suck.

Honda CB "sweep the floor" project, AKA: The Hippy Bike

Well, apparently Avon is incapable of making a Speedmaster front tire that is actually ROUND. That's the second one they sent me. I do have to give a shout out to Summit. They honored the warranty even though I bought the original tire over a year ago, and are going to refund me for this...

    1980 GS550E + 2000 Katana 750

I was about to hook up my IV fuel bottle and see if she'd start but decided to pull a plug real quick. They're basically impossible to pull with the tank in place. Last time, I checked for spark by taking a spare plug and laying it on the head. Pulling the #4 plug revealed the cause of my...

    1980 GS550E + 2000 Katana 750

I got the choke cable back in place. That's a fiddly little sucker, and I don't know what is gonna keep it from popping out again. It could stand to be about two inches longer, so it isn't so tight when it exits at the front of the tank and goes up to the handlebars. I looked at a Bandit 1200...

    1980 GS550E + 2000 Katana 750

Dug into the GS/Kat today. The petcock seems fine, fuel flowed like crazy when I sucked on the vacuum line. Plus, the petcock is actually a pretty good size, with a 6.5mm I.D. My guess is that it will flow just fine for the 750 engine. When I cross reference the Suzuki part number, the same cock...

    1980 GS550E + 2000 Katana 750

Dyno tuning was on the to-do list when the bike decided to take a nap. The petcock bolts on with two screws, about 44mm apart. The DynoJet kit only came with needles and mains. I feel like a needle adjustment is in order. I also think the pilot jets could be changed, but I can't find crap...

    1980 GS550E + 2000 Katana 750

Still have this one, still not on the road. I definitely have some carb tuning/fuel delivery work ahead of me. When riding at normal speeds, part throttle, I could feel a sort of surging. I figured the pilot jets and/or mixture screws needed tuning. It pulls like a banshee up top, but will...

Got us a nail biter! All tied up, for the third time. It's been a real back and forth.

Honda CB "sweep the floor" project, AKA: The Hippy Bike

It's a close one! I'm one vote away from tying, two from taking the lead! And that's against a really nice 750F. The 500/550's always have a tough time winning against the 750's.
