fixed!!! a disconnected wire in headlight bucket, enlarging the wiring diagram made it a lot clearer. thanks for the help neevo.

ground that wire out and still no tail light, test light light up when I tested same wire in the park position.

ok have tested across the fuse and it is good, there is no brown/ blue tracer in the headlight bucket but did find a solid brown wire with nothing hooked up to it and it did have continuity with the brown/blue coming out of the fuse box. I found one joint with four black wires in the headlight...

was using my old analog meter, just picked up a new innova digital unit it has several omh settings and an auto setting. will study it and continue testing

I am not getting power to dash lights, but do have continuity from switch to tac light bulbs, checked bulbs they are good. will try the other tests later tonight. what I cant understand is the ignition switch is early in the system, its getting power on the black wire terminal (headlight) on run...

ok did all tests you had mentioned and have continuity in all, i am still thinking when I turn ignition switch to the run position with battery hooked up test light should show power on the brown and brown/white terminals, could a short later in the circuit some how affect this? THANKS m

sure can,test light and multimeter standing by..

yeah fuse is good , at the ignition switch I only have power to the black wire when switched to the on position. not to brown or brown/white. if I put jumper between black and brown I have tail light. same results with new aftermarket switch. frustrating!!!

have been doing some continuity tests on my my ignition switch (cb400f) not getting any power to the brown wire, or the brown/white wire. with the switch in the on position I have continuity between the red wire terminal and the black wire terminal. but no continuity between red and brown...

can somebody tell me where I can find single and double bullet connectors and shields , as used inside headlight bucket, there for a 76 cb400f. thanks mike

yes brown wire at ignition has power when switched to the park position and tail light does come on, but no power when switched to the on position. there is a second brown wire at ignition but test light shows no power at either position. I suspect the ignition switch is faulty.

brown wire from ignition has power when ignition is switched to the park position, I read in another tread that power for the tail light comes from inside the headlight bucket when ignition is switched to on, will check it out tomorrow.

I am going to check out the ignition switch wiring, I do have tail light in the park position so I know the bulb is good.
