JUNE 2014 - DO THE TON BIKE OF THE MONTH - VOTE!

add a vote for Fresh_C's CM400T. Those bikes are awful from the factory and he's truly created a swan from that ugly duckling.

JUNE 2014 - DO THE TON BIKE OF THE MONTH - NOMINATIONS!

I nominate Fresh_C's "Ugly Duckling" build. It looks like what Honda could have done with the CM400T if the designers had any sense of style. Build Thread: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=36439.0 Before: After:

ugly duckling CM400T build - Calling it finished

I was fortunate enough to see this finished bike in person earlier this week and the photos don't lie. It's amazing. Fit and finish, ergonomics (for an appropriately sized rider) exhaust sound, etc.... all of it is impressive. I'll actually be employing Fresh_C to help continue my KZ project...

ugly duckling CM400T build - Calling it finished

Re: ugly duckling CM400T build LOVE it. Did you drop the clip-ons slightly, or is that just an optical illusion, or the result of the fork spring chop? Either way, the entire stance is great.

Re: ugly duckling CM400T build Wow. This is coming along nicely, C. Need pics with primered bodywork installed!

    Nighthawk Newb

Your rattle is probably the heat shield located at the header to muffler transition. Those loosen up pretty often. You may have a rusty baffle inside the muffler too. If you're looking to swap mufflrrs just measure the OD of the headers and select the appropriate universal slipons from your...

ugly duckling CM400T build - Calling it finished

Re: ugly duckling CM400T build "Finally?" I can't even find the time to work on my own bike lately, but I'm glad I could help out. I still can't believe how far this bike has come, and that it's your first bike ever. I hope this spring chop helps the ride & handling and reduces some...

82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build **UPDATED**

Re: 82 KZ750 LTD Brat Style Build - First Timer Next up may be to chop the fork springs and add lowering spacers to get that low look without tubes sticking through the top triple clamp. Instructions here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=38126.105 this was how I did my twin...

    1981 Honda CM400 Build

Have you checked tire clearance at full suspension compression? I have a feeling that you're gonna rub, since that bar appears to sit at about 11 o-clock in relation to the axle.

ugly duckling CM400T build - Calling it finished

Re: ugly duckling CM400T build Yup, that's well done. It keeps it from looking too plasticky, while being WAY easier than polishing. Maybe keep an eye out for a replacement clutch cover to remedy that cracked cable support area.

ugly duckling CM400T build - Calling it finished

Re: ugly duckling CM400T build I can't wait to see this all re-assembled with painted frame, engine, and tins. I know you've made a decision on the sheet metal colors, but what about the engine? Are you still thinking of the bright 'cast' silver finish? If you're worried about the whole bike...

    Project: "HonkyKong" 1979 KZ750 B Twin (brat-tracker-thingy)

Just some high temp engine paint from my local auto parts store. Maybe it was the PJ1 VHT stuff in satin black. I forget exactly. Sorry. Excuse my lack of updates. Life took up all my free time for the first half of 2013. The new baby plus an ever increasing workload at my day job leaves little...

    WTB: Cafe gas tanks

I have a factory-knee-dent tank off a Suzuki GS450 that another DTTer is considering buying, but if that falls through, it may be available for you. It looks like this one, but has been rattle bombed an ugly yellow by a PO and has a few minor dings. Only mild surface rust inside though.

WTB: Suzuki gs450 tank or gsx250 tank

I have the tank you're looking for, off a near-complete 1982 GS450 (E) that I've got kicking around. I may sell the entire bike to a friend, but if he's not interested, I'll be stripping it for art supplies (see my website link in sig) and parting out the rest. I agree, this tank is killer...

    Project: "HonkyKong" 1979 KZ750 B Twin (brat-tracker-thingy)

Thanks, ...to both comments. I'm looking into getting hooked up wth some local indie shops who may be interested in stocking or consigning some of my stuff displayed on http://honkykongcustoms.com/ Also, finding a constant source of affordable parts (without turning my backyard into a...
