'82 KZ440 LTD Air Box Mystery

Haha, no worries. I'm just glad to be back in the garage getting my hands dirty again. This Tuesday the wife and I will be moving up to Des Moines, Iowa and a long time friend of mine lives up there. He knows a couple guys that go to all the Mama Tried and other cafe shows every year, so it'll...

'82 KZ440 LTD Air Box Mystery

Haha, I'm afraid so. 2014 / 2015 has been a crazy year and left little to absolutely no time / funds for the KZ. Luckily, I'm moving up to the Midwest next week and made contact with a couple guys who ride KZ1000's and KZ550's, so I'll be able to bribe them for their knowledge with cases of...

'82 KZ440 LTD Air Box Mystery

Hey Berkman and everyone, Time has gotten away from me with a new job, getting married, and moving several states away. But, things are beginning to settle down, so I can get back to work in the garage a day or two a week. Especially now that the weather is nice. I may just start a new thread...

The Dreaded KZ440 LTD Seat (yet again)

Awesome job on utilizing the stock frame's geometry! I may be asking you about some tips on cleaning up the battery / wiring mess under the seat. I'm not ready to tackle all of that yet, but your bike looks super clean and is definitely what I'm going for. Thanks again for the inspiration...

That's a really great tip. Definitely wouldn't have thought of that until it was too late. Thanks!

Holy Smokes, that is one good looking bike. Awesome work. Thanks for documenting the process for us. Congrats on a sweet little ripper!

The Dreaded KZ440 LTD Seat (yet again)

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more likely I am to do an up sweep, as well. Maybe something subtle, like 10 degrees or something. 1sttimer (above) pointed me in the direction of SONIC, a fellow DTT member who does some fine seat hoop work and I contacted him about a custom job. He's...

'Hamasaki' formerly known as the '82 KZ305 cafe racer - first build

Re: '82 KZ305 cafe racer - first build Really like where you're headed here. I'm interested to see what you end up doing with this bike's challenging geometry. Keep on posting!

The Dreaded KZ440 LTD Seat (yet again)

You know, I think you're right. I was measuring the OEM stock seat at the time, not the frame width underneath. I'm thinking it's going to be closer to 8-ish inches than 10, definitely need to double check that measurement next time I'm in the garage, just to be sure. I'll change that dimension...

The Dreaded KZ440 LTD Seat (yet again)

Hello all, Time to tackle my 1982 KZ440 LTD's wretched seat and try to make her something she was never intended to be. I know this topic pops up now and again, but I've decided to have a go at it myself and learned from experience that I should ask advice from you guys first before getting in...

Help With Updating to LED Signals / Lights

That's awesome. Really really appreciate the point in the right direction. I like the look of the lights you picked up on ebay. I'll try to narrow down what I'm willing to deal with (don't have a whole lot of electrical experience) and go from there. Thanks again for the help! This was exactly...

Help With Updating to LED Signals / Lights

So, after hours of fruitless searching, and in an attempt to preserve my sanity, I've resorted to just asking you guys for some basic help. It seemed like a super easy update at the time I began this, but now I'm coming up empty. Why are there thousands of options for motorcycle lights...

Please, school me on Jet sizes / sourcing...

Cool. I sortof found that to be the case with 6Sigma as well. Or maybe it was just my lack of experience in ordering jets. But either way, they didn't help. I guess I've just had some trouble isolating the exact jets I need to purchase. Pretty sure I'm just going to have to make an educated...

Please, school me on Jet sizes / sourcing...

I have the stock exhaust and I lucked out and was able to buy a stock airbox here on the forum. It took me a couple of months to track one down, but it was worth the wait. Thanks for the pointers on the indicators. I think I'll try to find a decent LED headlight with integrated signals next...

Please, school me on Jet sizes / sourcing...

Off topic, I know, but I'm also having some trouble finding a spot / modification for my indicators after switching out the cruiser bars for superbike bars as well as changing out that boxy tail light. I'd be interested to see how you moved those around. But I'll probably end up searching the...

Please, school me on Jet sizes / sourcing...

Awesome. Sorry, I'm a little slow sometimes, especially when it comes to making connections between reading about / seeing / ordering parts I actually need. There's so much information out there that sometimes it can be overwhelming to make the right purchase the first (or second or third) time...

Please, school me on Jet sizes / sourcing...

So, this is as far as I've gotten by piecing together all the info I can find. I'm mostly unsure of the Pilot Jet (48) and the Needle Jet (61). I just want to make sure I'm matching up the right jets / needles to the right suggested sizes before I go buying them.

*// Basically, I'm looking for the proper way to restore a carburetor back to its original factory jetting and where to source the parts necessary to do so. //* After taking a deeper look at my carbs last weekend, I've come to the conclusion that the previous owner really had no idea what they...

    Exhaust leak (or worse?)

Awesome. Thanks for all the advice, guys. I'm definitely changing the oil first thing. Picked up some spare spark plugs, two carb rebuild kits, and plan on carefully inspecting the floats specifically. Also gonna attempt to adjust the valves for the first time. I've been watching the videos from...
