well if your taking the old seal out isn't worth replacing it??? since your taking it out it doesn't matter how much you damage it. When you put it back in use the old one to push against and protect the new one.

most home depot type stores should have some kind of polishing kit for a drill. I know i have a ryobi one that uses a 4" polishing wheel, and it's just a threaded bolt that has some locking nuts and washers on it, and then tappers down to the size of a drill chuck.
