1970 CB450 build - Now renamed "Piston Killer"

Re: 1970 CB450 build

NIce! I like the black on silver.

Can you give us a list of where you sourced your parts and who did your machine work, etc., and where you're located? Maybe we can start a list of trusted suppliers that we have worked with and can recommend to other members.

Thanks. My engine parts are all ebay finds and Bike Bandit OEM purchases. The machine work was done at Cascade Cycle in Eugene, Oregon (Genius' on vintage bikes). All bodywork and fab work was done by me.

Re: 1970 CB450 build

Got some more stuff done, nothing too dramatic.

Finally got the damn cam chain installed and timed now I just need to find something to peen the damn master link pins (they are hard as hell)

Got the tank lid that I'm going to be using trimmed to shape (will be black untill I can make a Carbon one)

mocked up the CL pipes (they'll be longer when I'm done), and the rearsets (at least the brake side)

How much on the tank? You can pm me details. I won't be ready for it until the fall at the earliest. But I'm pretty much going to copy the look of your bike with a different color scheme.

Carbon Fiber skinned headlight buckets anyone?

I'm not interested in a skinned bucket, but I am interested in a full carbon bucket. A tricky mould indeed. Perhaps you could use a very small amount of the metal rim and just bond it to the bucket.

But more importantly, I think there is a market for a small, CFRP taillight. The bezel should be in 6061-T6 and have #10 stainless allen screws to hold it to the GRP. Nice Lexan cover over a LED bulb and it will be perfect. You have the CAD skills to design this up...or I could do it, but I haven't touched SW in a couple years.

Got the exhaust done, the wiring is done and mounted the battery box, rectifier and volt regulator under the seat. Bitch to wire in the modern R1 controls on the bars but worth it. I miss my R1 but this will be much more fun to ride even if it has half the horse power.

Thanks. It's just going to have a glass tank for a while. This winter I plan on doing some more work on it and build a carbon tank and side cover skins.

Headlight bucket mounted, CF battery box, voltage regulator, rectifier mounted under the seat, blinkers mounted on the uper shock mounts. Ready to fire up as soon as the throttle cable gets here:

Send me a couple scetches or diagrams of the taillight and I'll see what I can come up with. The complete CF bucket for the 450 would be a cinch. I figured a couple layers of CF over the stock bucket wouldn't be that much heavier than a 100% CF bucket.

Re: 1970 CB450 build - Now named Isabella

Well this is the only shot I got of her before her fatal incident. :'(

Was doing a quick run to get the plugs warmed up so I could check the jetting. Just before I hit the kill switch to check the #1 piston hot seized and froze the rings up. Shitty deal.

Just got the new piston kit (thanks rusty riders), a jetting kit, and once I get a new cylinder base gasket I'll get her back together to try again. When she pulled, she pulled strong though.
