1972 Honda CB750. *update* overflow leak fixed for $0

Re: 1972 Honda CB750. Mixed Up Priorities?

Yea, it’s all good. Those who can rebuild carbs... do.
Those who can’t... pay others excessive amounts of money to do it for them.

I thought I explained the logic.

Carbs have been in since day 1.

I dont have time or interest to rebuild them. I do tons of stuff on my bikes but I dont want to do this. Period

To rebuild carbs, since I wont do it, is $400.

I know someone in cali who sold me a set of rebuilt carbs for my CB500 and they have worked FLAWLESSLY since I bought them 2 years ago.

He's charging me the same amount for a new rack.

My friend and I will put the new rack in (in about 20 min) when they arrive.

I'll have spanking brand new carbs with NO problems for YEARS

It will be me, my flawless carbs, my happy wife (because i wasnt dithering with the bike) and my collection.

Re: 1972 Honda CB750. Mixed Up Priorities?

One hundred bucks a carb is not out of the ball park. It's a crap load of work to strip and clean them and re-do all the plating.

BTW, is that paint or powder on the carb bodies? I hope it's fuel proof. Vapor blast or soda blast is a safer option, but those do look nice.

Thanks for the comment. Yep $100 per carb is the norm....BUT I PAID ZERO DOLLARS TO FIX IT!

I HAVE GOOD NEWS!!!!

This morning i took the overflow tube off the leaky carb, attached one end to compressed air. Shot air in it and fuel splattered out of the air filter and other areas. Cleaned that up, started the bike, no more leak!

The air probably dislodged the dirt or whatever was sticking the float.

Here is the hi-tech device I used.

$400 for a plug and play quad bank seems pretty reasonable too me. It's got to take the better part of a day to do the work.

Yea but he was right about doing it yourself.

I will always try to sort issues myself before pulling the trigger on buying anything. Ive learned the hard way not to throw money at problems.

I knew last night that when I woke up this morning I would attempt a series of fixes before pulling the trigger on a new carb set.

I was right to do so, and thankfully I now have no more carb issues and am $400 richer, not poorer.
