Um... no. ;)

These are D-hole rims. I actually like this style rim a lot. They're a common circle track rim, and I want this car to have some of that look to it. Maybe some cues from NASCAR and Legends...

That style VW cap is for a 4 bolt rim anyway, and these are Chevelle hubs.

This beast must be quick Irk, any chance of a video of it taking off under power?
Not yet, but I need to get one. I'll post up when I do. My neighbor keeps telling me it's never going to run right until I do a burnout, which I haven't done yet either. :-\

Thanks, Luugo.

I decided to do away with the high pipes and go a bit more subtle on exhaust.

Any plans for rear guards?

To me it looks a bit naked back there. I think a nice styled guard rolling out towards the tyre from the back window but not covering it entirely would look rad.

It was one of those deals where I put so much time and effort into pie cutting and building those pipes that I really wanted to make sure I was comfortable to cut them out. It was different, and for that I hung on, but I agree that the low pipes look better and make more sense. I was also afraid low pipes, especially with a can this size, would be too low. Once I put some miles on it, I knew what clearance I needed. Plus, I raised the rear end an inch, and I may go a bit higher, which will get me more clearance.

I plan to box the OG running board channels and smooth all that out in the least. With that, I also think a lot about doing a guard similar to what they run on Baja Bugs. It's still up in the air whether or not that will happen. I also think about doing some sort of fender back there.

I machined a couple end pieces and made another set of tie rods. Was still having interference issues with the frame because the straight tie rods angled up through the frame and hit about 3/4 through their radius. This gives me a level tie rod through the frame.

Luv this project! I can't remember but what frame is the bug sitting on?
Custom box tube frame with a 72 Chevelle rear end.

I scored a couple of virtually rust free, complete doors from a local shop to replace my rotted doors. I had to weld bolts to literally all but one hinge screw to get them out. Luckily, I thought to take the screws from the parts car when I took the doors..,

Nice combo - leave it like that and your 'rod looks exactly like my hazelnut and vanilla cream spread.

Ok, not exactly. ::)

Nice score on those doors. I'd love to see this one day, better still do a burnout in it. Please and thank you.

Gotta love getting those hinge screws out. Always a fun time.
Dude, for real. I contemplated just keeping the body mounts intact and changing the door by removing the hinge pins, but as I'm sure you know, that is another kind of hell and one which requires making a special tool unless you want to spend $400.

Yep. And if the hinges aren't sagging too bad there's no point in taking the pins out.

I usually just drill the heads off of them, but I always beat on them with the impact first for some reason.
