~~~If it ain't raining, I'm riding~~{iii}?~~prost~
I'm looking for a period correct exhaust thats in pretty good shape.
Doesn't have to be the best looking, i want that patina on there to match the rest of the bike.
I would like for it to be not falling apart and leaking or about to fall apart. And not cost me my left ___.
Any recommendations for period correct tire shop is needed too, Appreciate it.
I don't have any intentions of restoring, rebuilding, just want to keep the 40 year patina on it and ride it to different local bike rally/shows.
Thanks for the replies in advance.
A lot of the exhausts for the 350F are very shitty 4-2 set ups. The stock 4-4 pipes were terribly built and rotted out quickly, and original ones are insanely expensive as are the reproductions. Stock CB400F exhaust bolt right on, although you've got to change the pegs over to 400F pegs, which sets them back about 6 inches. If you want to retain the kickstarter, you've got to fab one or find one that will work; the stock 350F kicker will hit the pegs. 400F exhausts -- at least the headers -- are surprisingly plentiful and go up and down in cost (obviously related to condition -- what you get depends on what you spend). And if you're concerned about it being "period correct" -- it basically is.
Dunno about a shop that specializes in period correct looking tires, but I am likely picking up a bike with 10K miles that's been in storage for years, with original tires that show no cracks. I wouldn't trust 'em for more than just putting around, but if I pick up the bike I'm going to get rid of them.
Hey, thanks man, appreciate the info.....................this thing only has 2800 original mile on it, and the tires are the original factory ones.
They still hold air, amazingly enough...I may just go with a 4-1 setup for the exhaust. This thing runs really well, I just don't want to run it with open pipes, that's what the 750 is for.
If you've got the stock airbox on the 350F and your carbs are running stock jets, you won't need to switch the jetting for running 400F exhaust either. I wrote a long piece about mounting 350F exhaust and switching to a 400F engine in a 350F frame and you can search for it if you want to read more. And a 550F kicker will bolt on and clear the pegs.
yep, everything is stock, only thing ever molested on this thing is, I took the carbs off, cleaned them and put them back together. Only replaced the rubber, kept everything else original.
Will do the search, as soon as I can.
