1974 Yamaha TX-500.....Rebuild time!!

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

I appreciate that Scott. Waiting to see what the guys insurance is going to do.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Bikes, as we see here daily, can be rebuilt- can't say the same for human beings- Good to hear you are OK. Don't let it hold you back- gear up and get back on. FWIW, this bike is too nice to not rebuild and enjoy again.

Just read your other thread about the accident, really sorry to hear. Glad you're ok though, I can imagine you're shaken up, I know I'd be. Take it easy.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500- The rebuild

Insurance money is coming in. They are not paying what the bike is worth but we all know they pull that shit. Going to make up for it on the personal injury claim though.

So, have a big order in with Mikes XS and DCC to get most everything replaced. Going to weld the rear hoop back on lace up a rear wheel (again!) and I was able to bend the seat back into shape. It has a little scuff on one side but I just don't want to drop the coin for another one. Also, the stock BLUE tank with a big dent on the top is going back on. Not going to spend the money on another professional paint job. One side cover was cracked in the center. Looks like a razor blade cut into it about two inches. Going to leave that alone as well. Triple tree is bent. Fork look good.

Bike wont look as good as before but will still be damn cool in my book.

First time seeing this thread and the bike. Damn does it look nice, glad to see you're rebuild it as well. The green with brown grips actually looks classy as hell, I'm impressed.

Thanks. Funny thing.....just ordered the black titty cushons from DCC ;D They have always been my favorite. These bottle grips moved around to much.

So does anything look wrong with the front end? ;D  Bent bars, bent triple. The fork tubes are fine.

Rear fender got a little munched up. That was a cb360 fender. I did manage to save the brake light. Just need a new bulb. Had to straighten the bracket that mounts the plate.

I'll be watching this "re-build". I'm cafeing a 75 xs500, if you need something may be able to help, although it looks like most of the stock parts I'm not using you aren't either.

Thanks man. I have everything coming in right now that I think I will need. Found a really nice cb360 fender off of ebay for cheap. Bike isn't going to look as nice as before because I am not going to sink the money into paint on the tank. So be it. Just want to get back on the road.

Pretty much put back together. Tank sucks but will look out for another one. Second rear fender off of a CB360 is on it's way (first one was crap from a seller off ebay....fighting with him now). After fender is on. Going to pick up a new plate at the DMV and I am on my way again.I put some tracker bars on this time. Nice and wide. Went with different mufflers too.
Oh....and I also have a fork brace on the way.

Thanks guys. Not as nice as before but oh well. I will work on it more throughout the year. Might be purchasing a new Honda CB500F in a month. When I do, I will be tearing this bike back down and starting from scratch, cleaning the frame up and other misc crap.

OK, I didn't like the tank in white. Went with metallic blue and since it was such a crappy paint job I added some flavor.

I am having a hell of a time getting the carbs adjusted right. Don't know if it is the new mufflers (different style from last time) or what. The bike sputters when accelerating hard out of every gear. Once up to speed it goes just fine.
