1975 CB360 running issues....

i've had it up to here with this bike and ultimetly looking for the final solution to these carbs.

i cleaned and kreemed the tank and had the donor carbs boiled & rebuilt (off of another 360), i'm getting fuel in my bowls but when i lean the bike over i'm getting zero out of my over flow, the floats look to be set where they are supposed to be and when i spray starting fluid in there she will fire right up and run off that but won't suck any gas in to keep her running. i'm at a stand still and unless i can fix it and get it running i'll just sell it for what i paid for it. any help would be appreciated and i'll keep looking over the carb post and keep trying

Why do you expect to get gas out of overflow?
The float level either isn't right or you have a blockage somewhere.
Fuel does flow when you have open lines? (you did remove internal tank filter before Kreem?)
 
first off, are your idle screws set about 1 1/2 turns out?
if yes, then follow this for troubleshooting

1: take the fuel lines out of the carburetors
2: open petcock

does fuel flow out of lines?

no? -petcock blocked, fix this

yes?
1: replace lines into carburetors, open petcock
2: wait a minute, then unscrew drains

does fuel flow from drains?
no? -blockage at float valve, or float height set far too low, disassemble carbs and inspect

yes?
1: crank engine over
2: check spark plugs, are they wet with fuel?

no? disassemble carbs and check for correct float height, disassemble all jets, remove primary and secondary emulsion tubes, clean thoroughly, blow compressed air through jets, check for any blockages in idle circuit passages

yes? check ignition timing, valve tappet clearances, battery voltage...
 
TO is slang for Toronto. We also go by T-Dot lol. If you were local a friend of mine specialized in Honda bikes. He tuned mine. Hes got a 360 and it drove him nuts that mine wasnt running well.
 
Definitely check that timing, I had an xs500 with similar troubles, I was ready to trash the carbs, but some careful timing and cleaning of the points cured it completely. Fresh plugs never hurt.

Also, make sure the little air hole in your gas cap isn't plugged. Without an air inlet, gas won't flow, or will only flow for a moment.

I don't want to take anything for granted, so I'm tossing this out there: did you make any modifications in the intake or exhaust without rejetting?

no mods to my intake or exhaust and your fine man, after hearing all thisk talk of the points and timing i really feel like that has to be the issue also the tiny hole on the gas cap might do it too because i did kreem the tanka nd who knows something prolly gummed it up because when i would open up my idle i could hear it burp so let me get down to business on this and see what happens, i've never done timing before but i have a clymers manual so i'll give it a shot
 
Yep its surprising how the bike reacts. I find mine is very finiky. Wanna know how I know when I am low on fuel? Left side dies and I am running on the right cylinder also. Shes a moody little b*%@# thank goodness her mummy loves her :D
 
ok, took everything into consideration


cleaned the points, set my ignition timing and did my valve clearances, and took apart my petcock and cleaned all that out and now have fuel going into both carbs.



kicked her over a few times and she fired right up, she ran rough and i think thats because of the gas thats in her, so tomorrow i'll be picking up 5 gals of ethanol free gas for her :)

my question though now is, after setting my valves she's chattery as fuck in the top end, i watched a few vids on youtube of some CB360's running and i wasn't hearing it, or maybe the exhaust was just louder then the chatter, just trying to get a feel what everything thinks might be the issue, i'm going to check the clearances again tomorrow and double check them also. thanks for all the help
 
make sure you set them properly, I keep a set of feeler gauges special for the job, I bent the last 1/2" at about 45 degrees and bent the rest of it into a V so it's stiff and you can feel resistance of the 1/2" portion better

also make sure you're checking the clearance at the right position, there are two TDC positions on an engine, one at firing and one at the end of the exhaust stroke, you can make sure you're going into the firing TDC by looking at the intake valve, the upstroke as it closes is the one going into compression. if all else fails, go get yourself a clymer manual, it will help with everything...

i have the clymer and i set them at the "LF or LT" w/e one it calls for and then 180 degrees at the "T"


i've yet to check them again so thats my next bet and also i'm wondering if i should pull off the right side case and make sure my oil screen is clean, the bike had sat for a while before i got it and my neighbor thinks maybe enough oil/if any is getting to my rocker arms and causing lots of the excessive chatter, just a thought but sounds plausible but i know there's deff too much play and i need to buy a proper set of offset feeler gauges for the job, or check the cycle shop
