What if any starters are interchangable with my 75 500t? Just picked the bike up the kick starter works great but the starter just makes noise and doesnt actually crank the motor over. I pulled the side cover and checked the starter chain and it was hooked up. Thanks in advance for your help and i wish they wouldnt have powdercoated the frame red but i can live with it for the moment.

500t's have known issues with the starter clutch that is under/inside the flywheel/stator rotor on the left side. They have small rollers and springs that can wear out or get stuck. They also have issues with the screws that hold the clutch on coming loose and backing out into the case which can cause damage to all parts in the area.

Better to look at it now and figure out what going on then have it break on you later. Starters for the DOHC 450 twins should work for your bike, 71-74 should be identical.

If the starter turns over, then the starter works, the clutch not engaging the stator rotor/fly wheel is the issue.

Fix could be just as simple as pulling the stator rotor and freeing up the rollers and springs.
