1975 Yamaha RD350(LC) Preservation-mod Hellride

A lot of assumption the intake has flats, shelves, sharp edges, etc. The transition is actually an arc. Hard to get the angle right, so the pic can show that, but I promise there’s no hard edge.

I also ordered a boost bottle from Economy Cycle

When I was much younger I worked at two shops with flow benches. You would be surprised how little porting is needed to improve performance and how many rough looking ports actually improved the swirl pattern. You would probably not be surprised at how many heads and intakes were ruined by home porting jobs where smooth and shiny were the rule.

No one is porting heads here. This is an air box.

Here is a y filter kit sold by Economy Cycle:

All I did was scale that design up for the 32mm carbs, made it in metal, then rotated the filter side 90 degrees and added a second filter on a Y. Nothing groundbreaking, and no big departure from stock, really. The boost bottle is a big part of this, as well.

Installing more Vape parts, namely the regulator, coil and relay. Even though this bike now runs sans battery, I’m going to run a small 5ah AGM under the tank. I’m also installing a NWT wiring system with handlebar controls.

There's also some side cover modeling happening. I carve models out of foam, coat them with an epoxy called Epsilon, then prime and paint. Modifications continue, so open areas will get recoated and I'll build up the design. They'll get finished in fiberglass.

Oh, and I added a fender.

I promised to have this thing running by the end of 2021. So, with it being New Years Eve I had to hit the kick start. I have done zero tuning on the carbs. They are as you get them from Mikuni. No idle adjustment. No plumbing on the cooling system, so I don't want to run it very long or very often. Just a quick hitter to make the new year.

Once I figured out what it would take to repair the already wrecked and repaired fiberglass replica fender, I decided to try something besides another fiberglass repair. Me being a guy that keeps everything I cut off of bikes, I kept the struts from a YT1 replica fender.

I like the higher radiator. Might slightly effect high speed handling, but should keep it cleaner and less chance of being hit by a rock. I dislike the radiator placement on our Spyder, but understand that it is primarily for styling and perhaps a little COG. But man, it collects leaves, bugs and twigs!
