I like the fender.

You may want to have a sit down chat with whoever welded those nuts on to the brake adapter though.
PS I know it was you ;D

Haha. Fucker. I have every intention of taking a burr bit to that shit. I definitely put too much metal down. Don't know why I struggled to get it around those nuts this time around. LOL

Spokes are in, so I am building wheels...

Hit a snag on the front wheel. It appears as though Buchanan sent me outside spokes that are 15mm too long. I tried every which way to make sure I wasn't effing up, but nothing makes it right. Hopefully, they'll send me a new set out.

Planning out the rear brake setup. I’m likely sticking to the stock peg location, then converting the brake to cable pull. Since the drum actuator is symmetrical, it works as push or pull. The GS swingarm has the brake stay mount on top, so instead of moving it I flipped the drum...

Maybe I missed it, but what are those wheels off of? I love that high shouldered rim look
GL1000. Two 17" rims that come stock on rear of 1st gen GL's. They're 40 spoke, which the 550s, 750s, and 1000s ran.

Back to the XL350 hub for a sec: the cush dampers were hard as a rock, so I soaked them in brake fluid for a week. They’ve got their spring back.

You need some frame bracing, especially since back end is gone. The pressed up top tube ( ) flexes a bit with twin shock rear section just below tank flexes a lot and tube is almost always distorted enough for paint to flake off. Friend did a 500f 'mono 'probably 1083~85. Ended up cutting complete top section out, welding in a bunch of tractor exhaust tubing (something DOM, he worked at a farm place) Ended up looking like a 'real 'frame. Don't remember what happened to it, he got into heavily modified big bore GS1000's on the street (180+mph 1425cc, etc)

Once the engine is in, and other essentials, I'll look at more bracing. There's still some metal to be welded in at the top shock mount. I just need to know where air filters and other essentials are going before I do any of that. I don't want to weld a bunch of stuff in now that I end up having to cut out later.

Those rims look dope... but, a 19" front and rear is what all the flat track bikes run :) (i think)
19" both ends more often, rims are real expensive as they now use much much wider than MX rims. WM4 and WM5 seem very common on the ones I've looked at, even on old XS 650/750's

These rear GL rims are 2.5in, which I believe is WM4. I know WM3 is 2.15in, so I assume the next size up would be WM4. Regardless, I think 17 x 2.5 rims front and back on this bike are just the ticket.

Yesterday was not a good day, didn't realise I had posted same thing twice until I saw it today. Even the quote I used isn't what I thought it was, sure I read 18" and 19" yesterday :( Did get a letter from County Sheriff late afternoon saying investigation was closed and I'm completely exonerated so evil stepdaughter's lies didn't work out for her.. 8) Don't know WTF wife was thinking when she allowed Jen to come back and live here in 2009? ("it's only for 6 weeks")

VZ800 fender subframe. Narrowed an inch and the rear mounts shortened almost 2 inches.

Plan is to incorporate the Husky airbox. I made a couple of brackets to mount the backside of the fender in with the top air box mounts. There’s a plan to take up the gap between the air box and frame forward...

I think I like the look of the WM4 GL rims, pity they are 40 hole though, almost everything I have is 36 hole. I have a few sets of 3 spoke cast but they look too modern (even though they are from mid/late 80's)
