Removing 212lbs of SOHC with clutch cable still attached was no fun at all. I've worked alone on almost every bike ever since. Semms any help I have tries to kill me ;D . Never a fan of the 650 engine style but it does perform way better than a 550 :(

In a plastic bag waiting to be installed. I didn’t have one when I put the front end together, and I didn’t want to wait. The bike is not nearly finished, so It’ll get put in at some point. The bearings aren’t greased either. Well, there is a light lube, but not something I planned to ride with.

once all is set up i usually drill the neck tube and put a zerk fitting in and fill the neck tube that way nothing can ever get in
 
meh you can buy cheap grease for 3 bucks a cartridge it only takes half

if you have shitty seals it drips a bit in real hot weather and lets you know

otherwise it just sits there and does not dry out

if you fill it before you do the final torque down you will be sure the bearings are packed

i usually put the fitting facing back right near the frame that way no wires or cables will be caught on it

I only ever did that on my enduro bikes, been 'upside down' in various rivers and ponds when I was doing Welsh Championship rounds. Geraint Jones was world enduro champion at the time and helped set up courses for the Welsh team, because of that, the clubman class was often next to impossible (at least my first year ;) )
 
Haha. I have zero intention of filling my head tube full of grease any time soon.

I did paint the back of the frame and the sub frame. I know the cool kids prefer to powder coat, but until I get an oven big enough for a frame, I’ll just stick to chassis paint.

Got some sweet turn signal/running lights (front), turn signal/brake lights back. I’ve had pretty good luck with this style light on several bikes, including a couple of dual sports...

Here they are, Jim. I have a set with the same casing on my F650 dual sport, just with different lighting features. They're dirt cheap but super flexible and haven't failed me on the BMW yet. I just hooked battery power to the lights and they do the rolling flash. No relay.
