I'm still pretty new here and I've had problems posting to the forum. I get server messages whenever I try to post or preview. Since I can see other posts making it here to the forum, I'm wondering if it might be length -- or that I'm including multiple image URLs. So, I'll start this thread by attempting an intro to my project with no photos, then follow up with photos, and see if that might work better. Here goes.
I started this cafe project -- actually restarted it after having to set it aside for several years -- back in March, and joined The Ton in April, but all I've posted so far has been an intro message over at the intro page. Unfortunately for the project, right about when I joined here, I bought my daughter a car so she could have some reliable transportation. Getting that car in good repair has taken too much of my time and all of my disposable income, up until now. So I'm finally able to get busy with this project again.

After reading through the threads that Tim and Roustabout have been running on their cafe builds, all I can say at this point is, I hope mine measures up. They've both managed to set the bar mighty high! Gorgeous bikes, the both of them.
This is not a cost-is-no-object project -- far from it. Almost all the
decisions I've made regarding the direction I'm taking this build are
affected by cost to one degree or another. But still, the bike should
look reasonably good, I hope, and should run like a scalded cat -- I
also hope. Here's a basic list of specs:
1978 XS650 E (standard, not the Special)
Rephased to 277°
Wiseco 763cc (81mm) 10:1 big bore kit
Webcam 59 grind camshaft
Mikuni VM36 carburetors
2-into-2 exhaust
Ported and Polished Head
Electronic Ignition by PamcoPete
Overdrive 5th Gear from MikesXS
17:32 sprockets
XS750 (standard) 4.5 gal tank
Fiberglass bumstop seat
Lightened frame (removed centerstand and mounts, passenger pegs and mounts)
Instruments from a '79 XS (120mph speedo)
Daytona fork brace
Magura (or equiv) master cylinder
Drilled front rotor
Most of the stuff above I already have. I haven't made a decision yet
on the rear shocks, the mufflers, and whether to build my own wiring
harness or to order a new one from MikesXS and modify it for my
purposes. Pretty much everything else I haven't mentioned will remain
stock, and improved upon whenever possible. Next, some pics.
