That's the best looking Hawk I've ever laid eyes on. Well done ;)

Looks like it's running a bit hot though (blue pipes )

Thanks Hillsy - I thought the same thing when I got back from my first ride. Pulled the plugs and they looked good. Grabbed some wrenches and went down the road again doing some plug chops. Looked fine all the way through 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and WOT. Light tan with a nice white ring on the porc.

I wonder if others see some bluing with the MAC exhaust. I wonder how thin the head pipes are.

Well done Byrdman. The Mac are single wall pipe right/. I know they will blue on the top 1/3 or so even when running right. I have a slight bit of blue on the very top of my factory double wall pipe, and my plugs are fine on the chop on all throttle settings.

I am totally going to do my seat like yours only a different bum stop shape. I have a CM tank so I would need to shape it to go with that. that being when I get my bike back off loan to the father in law.

Cheers,

Maritime

If your father in law is actively riding the bike let him be until this winter - the old man is probably having the time of his life!

Thanks for the compliments on the seat man. I have to say there have been some pretty sweet bobbers with the CM tank being built latley...

Beautiful bike, working on an 82 hawk myself. Did you use the stock seatpan for the base of your seat?

Thanks man. You know I didn't, but that wouldn't be a bad idea with this frame. The seat was just too nice to hack up. I use a combination of card board and foam to get the form to sit right on the rails. Then come back with bumpers to set it just above the frame.

Good luck on your build man!

Im really loving this bike dude. How did you do the gold pinstripes???? are the stickers or a super pro paint job??

Your Hawk looks great! I am building a 1978 CB400TII cafe... I really like what you did with your headlight and tach combo. I just took apart my speedo and tach to see if I can reuse the speedo, and what you did is a great solution. Could you tell me how you did that? I am assuming those are the stock tach and headlight?

Hey guys - thanks for the compliments. The gold is tape. I purchased gold sheets and cut it to the shape I needed.

The headlight was cut to accept the tach and then glassed in to clean it up. I made stainless brackets to hold it into position. Sorry but I do not have any better pictures, and the bike has been sold.

Good luck with your projects guys.

love it! I'm currently building a cb400nc cafe racer and your seat/tank combo is really inspiring! love how you matched the color scheme with the gold comstar wheels.

Is that a MAC exhaust setup or did you build your exhaust, it looks really nice.

It is a MAC and honestly I was not that happy with it. The finish was great, but the sound sucked. It was really "tinny" and it just sounded like crap. It was very high pitched and a twin in my opinion should have a really deep tone. I'm pretty sure the wall thickness of the pipe and muffler is pretty thin and this contributes allot. I even made a few different baffles to try and help it out which improved it, but I could never get it the way I wanted it.
