1979 CB400T Hawk

Been Around the Block
I have been looking for another cafe project for a little while now, and found this the other day on craigslist. The plan is to keep the airbox and battery where it is and build a tail section to suit the odd frame. I'm also going to lower the headlight, add clip ons, and fab up some rear sets. I'll probably be going back with black bodywork and gold striping.

How about that rear tire! Its like a 5.10 front...

Ready to lay up some glass tomorrow.

little progress on the seat build. Finished laying down the fiberglass and then skim coated with one coat of dynaglass, and one coat of lightweight body filler.

Next I'll strip and straighten out the tank and side covers and get them ready for paint.

Nice work on the "flow of the seat"

However, more importantly, I wanna see more of that Norton under the tarp!

Sure man, its a '70 750 Commando restoration I've been working on for the past couple of months. Building the 400 to generate some cash to be able to complete it by spring.

Thanks for the compliments on the seat.

Been a while since I posted any new photos. Here are some mock ups after I finished up with the paint and body work. Sorry for the lousy photos, my camera has really been sucking wind lately. I'll post up some better ones once I get a better camera and a little more accomplished.

Wow man, this thing is somehow flying under DTT's radar.

Looks great so far!

Nice work on the hawk. I have a 78 that I fixed up for riding around town. Fun bike. I hope you will make enough cash off it to finish up the Norton.

Man, that's one beautiful 400T. Love the color scheme and over design. Can't wait to see the completed build.

Thanks for all of the kind comments guys. I was a little worried what people would think about the black and gold - especially the rims. Black and gold just screams 70's to me - I guess I have watched smokey and the bandit too many times.

Hopefully it will bring some good coin to help finish up the Commando.

Naw man, black and gold rules! Especially if you're a Pittsburgh Steelers fan like me! :D

surprised i missed this one! SEXY ride! love the black and gold!

that commando is too sexy man... if i were you i would strap it down! i would kill for one in that condition

Thanks for the comments guys. I do have a few updates but no pics yet so i haven't posted up.

The bike is pretty much complete except the headlight bucket area. I'm trying to drop the tach down into the bucket and I need to wire up my LED idiot lights. The hardest part looks like getting all of the wires in the bucket along with the tach will be the biggest challenge. I think I am going to glass in an area in the lower rear of the bucket to create some more room.

I've been working on non bike related stuff lately and haven't had much time to focus on my bike projects. Hopefully this weekend I'll get it finished up and I'll be sure to take a bunch of photos to show off the results.

Thanks for the comments on the Norton Rocan. It has taken allot of work to get it this far and hopefully it will be done pretty soon. Dont worry it is strapped from the ceiling. That way if the lift falls over the bike's not going any where ;D.

I got my 78 up and running and I rounded off the oil filter cover bolt. GRRRR ...patience.

The black and gold look fantastic!

Dang man that sucks. I know how you feel - I blew not one, but two head lights bulbs and I'll have to order two new ones.

Good luck finding a new bolt. I wonder if you could temporarily grind it down to a smaller size to get by.

I am pretty sure these bolts are available for cheap on ebay or a little more at the stealership. Honda used the same bolt on like 50 models for years and years. Just need to cross reference and you will be gold.
