1981 Suzuki GS750 Cafe Racer Build

that's awesome! I got mine within an hour of the guy posting it on craigslist. I went over there, looked around, drove it and just handed the cash. I had a 2001 saab 93 and some guy offered me more than what I bought it for so I handed the keys over. Spent 3 weeks without a car waiting for something good and I got pretty lucky with the E46 :D

I haven't been able to get a hold of the mechanic so I guess this weekend will be me giving it another shot. Not sure what's going on with the bike but I'll check the electricals and probably call dynojet to see if I did the rejetting correctly. Good thing it's going to rain all weekend. That way I don'y feel like I'm missing out on riding haha

Thanks I put a lot of effort into it! I'm going to see if he's ok with me being there but I'm handing it over because I want him to check shims, compression test, and things that I either don't feel 100% about doing myself or simply don't have the tools for. I could buy the gauges for the engine compression and for the carbs but for that much money I can take it over to this guy and get view of how it's really done so next time I can do it myself.

Reading back through you posts...
Don't be intimidated by the shim and bucket valve lash adjustment because your TSSC 4 valver doesn't have them ! Good ol simple screw and jam nut style adjusters. ;)

do you have a shim tool? if not a local bike parts shop is likely to have one in stock. you're going to want one.

ok thanks for clearing that up guys. I think I can do that myself then. I just want a mechanic so I can get this thing running because I've tried everything possible to MY knowledge. Still haven't heard from the guy so I'm in search of a new mechanic still

Good news! Mechanic is coming to pick it up today! thank god, I called about 10 shops and he was the only one who was able to help me out. Hopefully he gets it running soon 8)

he was the only one who was able to help me out

Stop to think WHY...

Relevent story:
You go to a town that has only two Barbers...
1st ones hair is imaculate and the shop is spotless.
2nd ones hair is a wreck and the shop is unkept with hair trimmings all over the floor.
Who should you go to?

Why the second one of course... he goes to the first for a hair cut because there is no other choice, and his shop floor is covered with the trimmings of all his patrons. The first shop is spotless because nobody goes there.... and that explains who he has to go to for such a good haircut. ;)

he was one of the guys that bailed on me because he was busy so I know he's had a lot of work in the past couple weeks. But it's true that I sort of didn't have any other choice. I like the story though, haha very cool way to look at it.

Finally finished the body work on the seat. Will paint it no later than this weekend so I'll be posting the pictures.

Bike is driving me nuts. It idles fine with choke. Once it warms up and I take the choice off it dies and if I get it to go on without the choke it will all of a sudden start revving to 5k. I bought new boots thinking it was a vacuum leak but now I'm thinking it's either the main jet being dirty or the nidle/slider sticking. Wish me luck

Stick new spark plugs in and let it idle a while with the choke as far off as it will run. Then check what colour they are. Don't rev it or anything just let it idle. If they are white (my guess is they will be) then your pilot jets are too lean. If they are black then too rich. Tan is what you want.

Also check your timing and point gaps. I am not so good with that side of things so that is about all I can offer.

Well thanks for the pointers. I'll take a look at that. I looked at the main jet and it was really clean so the issue wasn't there. Carbs look fine. I have an exhaust leak so I will fix that next and see what it does.

Yesterday I finished the body work on the seat and I painted it. I also got a new brake leaver and I finally fixed the throttle cable. I bought an led tail light strip and some turn signals. Looks amazing and it is incredibly bright. The brake light lights up my whole garage. I also drilled 3 holes for led's on the headlight housing.

Hey guys, I know it's been a while but work has been crazy the last couple months. Bike is still not running believe it or not. It starts but it revs itself. Usually idles fine and all of a sudden it will just start climbing. Also, if I gov it gas it just sticks and will not come down unless i mess with the idle speed.

-I checked vacuum leaks and everything is now sealed. New boots and silicone on basically everything to see if the issue was there. Improvement but not a solution
-Throttle cable is NOT too tight or too lose.
-only running on 2 cylinders. This can't cause revving can it?
-Spark plugs had a bit of carbon build up but again I'm not sure if that can cause revving issues.

please advise

Why is it running on only 2 cylinders? If you have the idle set at say 1500 rpm with 2 cylinders, the other 2 might kick in and raise the idle.

Aside from that, make sure everything else is perfect before trying to get it to run. New intake boots and orings (forget that silicone - it's a problem in so many ways), valve clearances set, float bowl height, etc.
