1982 CB750F...Better Devil

I put in the clutch dampeners from vintage cb750.
They weren’t suppose to be replaced so you won’t find them on any parts list.

The old studs that need to get taken out were a pain in the ass to get out, really took a lot of heat, grinding and a big ass hammer.
I thought I might break the clutch basket, but all is good, once one came out it made more sense.
Wish I took some pictures....

Looking good!
I should really finish up my bike

Ok well, ok. The riding season here fell off a cliff the beginning of November so that sucked, and been tooling away on the CB over the last few months. Bought a table lift so no more building bikes on absolute zero temperature concrete -

plus my shoddy neck and shoulder were starting to take a beating - elevation man, that's the ticket. Learnt how to do bookbinding, nothing to it -

and working on restoring the comstars at the moment when I have some time. So far I've resurfaced and glass beaded the rotors, and am in the process of sanding and polishing the aluminium before paint -

Long job, but all being well will be worth it. Bought the missus a new dude cat for crimbo too -

I figured he looks like a chewed up chocolate and caramel bar, so he's called Twix. And neither of them have nuts.

Posted something, but the link didn't work. Can't figure out how to delete the entire post so instead you get this drivel.

Back from the UK after spending Christmas with the fam, looking forward to getting back in the garage and moving this thing along.

^^ Cat's now called Chewy and is a fucking massive pain in the arse.

Nope, got nothing. But last night I realized one thing - we're back in a decade with a name I can get behind. The Noughties? Rubbish. The Teens or whatever the last one was called? Nope. But now we're in The Twenties. Sounds...epic.

Time to get my shit together.

Got round to rebuilding the forks but came up with a snafu with the dust seals. The seals that came off the bike look like this -

but the replacement All Balls seals look like this -

I mean, shit - if they'll work then I'll run 'em but not sure why they look different and if I got sent the wrong part. I went ahead and ordered some for an 82 CB750 C but they totally don't fit. Anyone got any ideas?

When I ordered seals for the Ninja 500 forx I'm using they were like the ones you got w/ those exposed springs. They aren't as purty as the original style, but I decided to use them anyway rather than try to find something else. Not sure why there's a difference, maybe they're cheaper to manufacture like that?

Good to hear that. From what I've learnt it's something to do with the circumferential spring keeping tension on the collar and therefore keeping the seal tighter. An aftermarket "improvement".

bingo... better seal with less stiction.

If you want original type and you have 37 mm tubes, try GL1000 dust seals. Lots of places carry them.

Made some decent progress on polishing up the comstars over the weekend. Of course by the 4th side on the second wheel I'd got the process down pretty good, so looking back on the other three sides - knowing I could do them better - sucked. But they look pretty good, I'm happy.

In progress -

I'll stick up an image of them finished soon, hopefully. The outer rim polishes nicely as long as you sand circumferentially, following the rim. I used 320 grit, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, then white polish on a dedicated buffing wheel, red polish (again, on a dedicated buffing wheel) and finally a polish with Autosol. Can't lie, takes a while.

Nailing a couple of 2x4's onto the the workbench helped keep the rim in place while I was sanding it. Polishing the things on the polishing wheel was a job and half, helped in no small way by wearing a ratchet strap over my shoulders which acted as a harness to hold the rim. Recommend.

Next up is the details, more fun and games.

I've had capsulitis (frozen shoulder) in my shoulder for the last year and a half, and this morning finally had my appointment for an athro distention injection. Pumped a load of fluid and cortisone into the area that's seized and the idea is that the fluid creates more space for the nerves and tendons etc to move around in and the cortisone takes the pain away. Here's hoping.

For my shoulders that lasts about 3 days.... YMMV. I hope.
Yeah, that's not good - sounds like they hit the wrong spot and you just got three days worth of local anaesthetic relief. I had a cortisone injection a few months back that did bugger all too. This arthro-distention injection is a different procedure, so hoping it'll have better results.

Got a bit more polishing done last night, things are starting to shape up. Hoping to have the sanding/polishing done by the weekend and then will consider paint. Cold as a witch's tit here so not ideal, but think I can swing it.

The exhaust on this bike is pretty roached - a beaten up Kerker can and roached headers. I've got a bead on a full OEM exhaust from an 82 750 C model (4 into 4, which I love the look of) - anyone know anything about exhaust interchangeability on these bikes? Fitment? Performance?

Did some more sanding on the comstarzzzzzzzzzz

Rims shaping up, bit more sanding to do on the frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yikes, is that a comstar on my bench or am I just pleased to seeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Nope, boring no matter what. I'll be back, once this job is in the rear view mirror.
