1982 CB750F...Better Devil

Looking great! I dig the stealth look on the side covers and fasteners!

It's funny to compare these differences between east and west. Over here Canadian tire is absolute SH*T for fasteners. Certainly nothing you want to put on a motorcycle, unless you want to hold things together with hot dipped galvanized nails lol.

Here, your choices are Alder auto, Lordco or Steveston Marine (the last being a marine shop has by far the best stainless selection).

...... I did some brackets on mine for side panels, but after I tacked them on I never finished welding them. Still cant make up my mind whether to go my way or your way. Lol

Thanks gents, appreciate that. Still a ways to go but getting a sniff of the finish line now. Well, the first of several finish lines no doubt.

Now that I can do something approximating welding, on my next build (that requires them) I'll weld mounting tabs to the frame for the side covers for sure.

Yeah I ended up welding them on this morning, since I had already made them.

Welded a tab on the back and tapped a thread so it won't need a nut on the back

It should work ok. Couple pics for reference.

Bunch more details finished up and mounted - front fender, horns, rear brake assembly, tail light...

Can someone tell me if that rear brake line looks ok like this? I've never installed braided brake lines - although it's almost the same length as the OEM line it looks like it arches up a lot from the mc. Is that normal?

You want some slack so the suspension can move through its travel without pulling but that looks a little too long. It wont hurt anything though.

Looks like that arches up a bit more than the braided line on my 900F, but the fitting on the caliper side of mine isn't flat so there's a bit more hose to the left of the clip on the brake stay... Hopefully that makes sense haha

I was wondering if one of the fittings is bent and maybe installed backwards? The line may fit better swapped front to back or fittings rotated 180 deg? Not sure but it won't hurt anything as is and maybe just pull a little more back towards the caliper in the clamp?

Thanks gents, yeah you all make perfect sense. I'll check the line again, pretty sure both banjos are straight but I'll double check.

Don't like admitting defeat but could not for love or money find the 420mm stock engine/foot peg bolt anywhere. Picked up some all-thread and a couple of nylon locknuts and finally got the footpegs reassembled and installed -

Pegs are staying stock because they're damn comfy to ride on.

The engine is running strong but there's a bit of chatter at idle - pretty common with these bikes. I hooked up the clutch cable to see if it was coming from the clutch (as I hoped) - sure enough when I pull the clutch lever the rattle disappears -

I know that a decent vacuum synch will help, but I think the carbs are pretty close already so I think the culprit is old clutch dampers. Honda doesn't sell them (and in fact accessing the dampers means opening up the back of the basket by drilling through factory-sealed rivets). There is a kit available from a few suppliers (a guy over on cb1100f.net, and vintagecb750.com) - new rubber dampers, bolts, and instructions on how to do it - anyone had a go at this? I know I talked about this before but don't remember where. I'd be interested to hear if there's much difference between the different kits.

I have not heard anything on the dampers but I do know now that you've used the all-thread on the pegs you will find the original bolt. :D

You’re probably right - I think I’m going to buy a carb rebuild dvd just so I can find stuff underneath it

its a common problem on bikes of this vintage. I have installed new clutch dampers on a kz650. pain in the ass, probably very simular for this bike. A noticeably smoother clutch function. Some models you can only remove the clutch basket with the cases split. not sure how it is for Honda.

Thanks for the good vibes, always great to hear. Actually Doc it doesn't look too difficult with these clutches, and it can be done without splitting the cases. You have to drill out the factory rivets to get to the dampers, but the instructions on how to do it look fairly straightforward. I'm not sure what I'm expecting afterwards, but any reduction in rattle will be welcome, especially with the rest of the engine purring like a panther.

Anyway, bought the kit today and hopefully it'll be here tomorrow - I'll post up the process.
