1982 Honda FT500 Cruel Sport Hellride

There must have been some highly suspicious noises coming out of that engine when that all cut loose.

Irk,
I have most of a spare clutch. I have the center clutch hub if you want it.
Did you find the counter balancer adjuster spring and bolt?

Thanks. I ended up ordering that hub for $20 shipped from an XR500 on Ebay. I hope they are the same. Also bought an entire counter balance assembly off Ebay, which appears to have the spring and bolt included.

Here we go. I pretty much have what I need to fix it. Got the counterbalance installed and timed.

I think it took me closer to 8 hours. HAHA. Still waiting on the clutch part to be delivered.

I also figured out more of the story. The counterbalance chain tensioner bolt must've come loose that holds the counterbalance tight. It was in the case all chewed up. There was no sign of the spring, so it likely was forgotten during installation.

The front counterbalance is a tube that slides through the case in front of the crank. The tube is cut away to clear the crank, then the shaft that holds the counter weights runs through that tube with needle bearings at each end. Because the spring was likely missing, when the tensioner bolt came loose it allowed the tube to shift and slam into the crank. This bound everything up, so most likely, it was running at like 4000 rpms and came to an all stop. BAM.

i agree you have more bike to come pick up!!!

I’m looking to shorten the rake on this thing a bit, to hopefully give it quicker steering in the twisties. Stock is nearly 30°. I’m looking to get it to 26°. Raising the rear 1.25” and dropping the forks 7/8” through the trees gets me to exactly 26°.

Very nice.
I love the Ascot, but the are pretty relaxed in the steering.
What does the trail come out to now?

Are you sure thats correct? Sport bikes are usually areound 3.75-4" going sub 3.5" could make the bike unstable

I just checked my Ascot and I have 26* , however that may not translate well to your set-up as I have shorter VF750F forks on it, a 17" wheel front and rear and 14.5" shocks. I also run a steering damper so the front end isn't too twitchy.
