1982 Virago 920 engine up build

Only found this because of BOTM. My heavens this was unbelievable. Well done. Mind = blown. And I hope you double your starting bid. Far better bike than many customs from "pro builders" that sell their stuff for much more than that.

Well, BOTM brought me here, and I will never be the same again.

If he is on schedule, he and his wife should be off already on their trek around the world. Good luck to him.

I would love to know what has happened or will happen to this bike.

8k seems low to me. It's an amazing piece of work with HOURS of tender loving care and the touch of a perfectionist. Hard to put a figure on all that, but worth more than 8k to me.

let the tear-down begin!

In 4 hours i had the bike from as you saw it in the last picture, to this:

all the frame components were stripped, cleaned, and sandblasted.

I got them powdercoated in a color called "sunken treasure" which is a black with gold pearl in it to give it a black/bronze/gold color depending on the light. here the parts are in the sun

and here it is inside.

then, it was time to start on the engine. I rebuilt the engine, but the in progress pictures all turned out horrible. so you will just have to imagine all of the mechanical goodness. All new internal parts and everything. aparently grease and camera lenses = bad

then the engine got a bath

a little silver...

and a little black, and looking pretty good

more soon!
thanks

Hey buddy. I am working on my engine now and I have some questions regarding the painting.

For the engine painting, what did you do for the surface preparation? Did you blast?
Did you paint on top of the original coating?
And what kind of paint/technique did you use ?

Thanks a lot!

ok bear with the thread resurrection......

but wow, I just came upon this thread now while searching for xv920 info and I'm sure EVERYONE here will enjoy pouring back through this build.

I wonder what ever happened to the bike?

I'll bear with that no problem. I love a good virago build, and this is most certainly one of those. Top bins.
