1983 XV500 Cafe Racer

Managed to find some more time today. If only I didn’t have to work for a living, my project would have been finished years ago!

Once again life has been getting in the way of the build. However I’ve managed to get the exhaust fabrication finished. Just a bit of tidying up on the welds to do.

I totally understand trying to find time to work on the build. I think we both started our XV builds around the same time. Exhaust looks great ! Keep up the good work.

Thanks. Yes time is precious and difficult to find.

Not sure whether to drill the bracket more, it has tapped holes to allow the reposition of the rear-set. I’m thinking multiple holes to provide a perforated look. Alternatively I might slice the bracket vertically, making it slimmer looking. Not sure.

The brackets don’t look bulky to me- if anything I’d keep them that size for the extra stiffness. But that’s just me. Your exhaust turned out beautiful by the way!

Thanks. Yeah, I’m in two minds, the extra stiffness is something I had in mind, maybe drilling them will make them look better. I’m pleased with the exhaust, some more tidying up to do on it, thanks for your comments.

Well it’s been 18 months since I last posted and 18 months since I’ve touched the bike. This is due to moving house and jobs, having to sort the house and then getting around to sorting my garage/workshop. Now I’ve got my machines installed, I’m looking forward to getting the project going again. The one thing I have released is how easy it is to put stuff away in places and not be able to find it again. I’ve spent hours looking for tools and parts.

Welds look good man; Was it a terrible pain to weld the Ypipe where it gets in tight?

I didn’t do that weld. It was a pre-weld y piece. All the other welds are mine.

With the rod attached so far away from the swingarm pivot, how are you addressing possible issues with bump braking?
