1984 GS750 with no particular direction.

Hey guys. I've been lurking this site for a while, but after getting my first bike a few weeks ago I've decided to join in on the fun. I picked up a 1984 Suzuki GS 750 which needs some touching up and finishing, and I'd like to post in here as I make some progress on it. I don't have any specific view of how I'd like to take it and working with a student's budget I don't have a lot of room for aftermarket stuff, so anything that I can do myself, I will.

I'd like to start off with finding a battery for it. When I picked it up it didn't have one, and finding information on the stock one is proving to be quite difficult. From the little bit I was able to dig up, I'll be needing a 12v 14ah 170cca. Can anyone verify if that's correct?

Some other things that will be happening once I can find out if it runs will be clip ons, front master cylinder(previous one seems unrepairable), cone filters(I'll be rigging up airflow restrictors to match the flow of the stock airbox so I won't have to mess with the carbs(to clean up the mid section of the bike)), signals(none at the moment), and a seat. The stock seat is torn to hell so I will be reshaping it and reupholstering it if not completely switching it out. Pics will be up as soon as I get the tank cleaned & sealed, which I'm hoping will be within the next few days.

Welcome to the site man. I don't know what the battery is off the top of my head but I can check my 750 for ya when I get home. Throw up some pics so we can see what ya have! ;)

Sorry for the double post but I just checked my battery that I am running on my 750 and it is a 12V 12AH and 200CCA. Great battery and have had no problems with it what so ever after 2 years which is more than I can say for my last battery.

Thanks! I appreciate the quick help :D I'll get some pics up tonight of where it stands at the moment.

Sorry for the wait on the pics. I figured I'd just get a couple after I test the battery. Here is how it stands at the moment.

As you can see, it needs a lot of cleaning up. I've decided to go with a tracker style seat with a wooden pan, just because I feel that this would be the easiest to fab up. If I don't like the look of that, I'll give fibreglass a go.

looks like youve got some work to do!
i like those gold wheels, are you going to keep them that way?
whats the plan for the bars?

Today, while working on the seat, I found out my rear brake is gone for some reason. I'll take a look at that when I get my front master set up but I'm hoping it just needs a bleed. I'm somewhat stuck right now though; I started getting a pan together with the intention of making a simple flat tracker type seat, but I would need to chop the seat lock and a bit of the subframe to do so. Before I make a commitment like that, I think I'll get the rest of the bike together and see where I want to take it from there.

As for the wheels I was going to strip/polish them, but after a bit of thinking I decided that they don't look too bad the way they are. For bars I'll be picking up some cheap clip ons.

The projects been moving slowly but it's getting there. Since the last time I updated here I've installed clip ons, reshaped the seat, started rebuilding/cleaning the front calipers, and other various clean up. I'm debating whether or not I should go with a complete new brake setup(for the front at least) due to the massive amount of rust and erosion going on, but that's going to be pretty pricey from what I've been able to find. Does anyone have any suggestions on a fairly cheap dual caliper setup including the master cylinder?

Next up is going to be tank work. Within the next couple of days it should be clean & stripped inside and out. I have a bit of an issue that I'd like a second opinion on though; I'm gonna have to pick up a tank cap but I can't seem to find any for this specific tank. Would I be able to use any cap or are they specific to each tank?

Updated pics will be up after a little bit of work this coming weekend.
