Consider me tuned in. I've got a 88' Hurricane sitting in my shed that I've been trying to decide what to do with. This is some great motivation/inspiration!
Really like what you did to the tail .. At first was thinking o boy this not good but i was wrong lol not first time or last . Think maybe cut down the tire hugger and give it a lighter look but still keep shit off the motor . Keep up the nice work man !
Thanks Dreadrock, I took the hugger off and it changed the look quite a bit (see page 2). I've got 2 customer's bikes to work on today...but then it's back to the CBR! Stoked. I may end up making my own "oversized" headlight bucket. It will be a lot of metal work but I'm always down for learning more of that. Next up is the seat so I can ride this thing and my nuts won't be falling into the battery box with a fast stop..
Dan, I've always been a fan of the Akira Film, those bikes were pretty interesting, This one is only going to be red until I get un-lazy and paint the wheels. ;D
Ok, so I decided to add some "flare" to that rear tail piece. Wondering what you guys think. I only did it to the right side for now so I included pics of left middle and right. I puttied up a little extension that has a similar feel to the gas tanks cuts. It's not at where it will be when done, but you get the idea for what I'm trying to do/mimic. And for ease of looking at the bike, I did a quick filler primer over the whole thing. I wasn't anywhere near done sanding/filling etc. but it sure is easier to see things like it is now.
Like the way that little extra line in the rear cowl looks like it belong with the tank. And by using a actual sportbike you will have a cafe bike that's actually fast.
Ok, thanks for the replies gents. Just confirmed what I was thinking. Sometimes the brain says it will look cool, but when you actually do it...it can be "tacky" or what have you. I like it, and I'm going to add some more definition and the left side. I only hope I can keep them relatively symmetrical.. :

Thanks man. This is another bike for "the wife" haha (I keep riding my KZ550 I made her...) This one should be a fun scoot when all said and done. And I've got some interesting ideas for license plate holder/front fender too. Hopefully my metal skills are up to par with what my brain wants to do.
Here we are at the end of the day. Time to go home and get a beer. cut out the rough shape for the start of my seat pan too. Not quite sure what the seat should look like...or how much padding etc. I would like this one to be a little more comfy than the other bike if possible.
Yeah, I'd like a fast bike one of these days, Triumph Street Trip, a nice all rounder. But the whole Cafe/Brat/Bobber thing is a great way to get a bike that maybe you don't care for (such as an 81 CB650C)and turn it into something alittle more worthy of our attention. That's why I did it....
I can't believe just how much color plays a role on the bikes we make. I just HADDDDDDD to get rid of that red, I had this urge to stomp about and charge anyone near me...luckily I was alone all day
I've been sanding since I took off the hurricane logo's that were clearcoated into the tank. So I decided I'd throw a decent amount of flat white primer on to help calm my Bullfighting tendencies...and I must say I'm much happier and I really see the potential in this ride more than ever!
I'm thinking of an older "throwback" paint scheme on this in non-traditional colors. I'm diggin' white at the moment. Maybe pearl, maybe metallic.
I'm loving the tail/light combo, immediately changes the bike for me. Really interested to see what you come up with gauge-wise. Must admit though, seeing "hurricane" brought me back, I'm gonna miss it.
Thanks gents! 8) Looking for an analog Speedo with the right ratio at the moment. Anyone know what that ratio would be? Like the one listed below. I'm really into that white/similar look so I think that's how she's going to be painted. Maybe all white with red (reverse of what it was originally)
I'm thinking I'm going to have to end up going with another Acewell. Not that it's a bad thing...but I was hoping for a dual gauge setup that would work well and look nice.
