Whoo-goo started second kick... video to come...

So here's the first start video. The bike started pretty easily and ran well. That's awesome... one thing though it started pumping oil out of the breather tube... which means it had wet sumped, which means the oil from the tank was able to flow past the oil pump and build up in the crank case. Which means I need to replace the oil pump. Which is pretty minor surgery... just need to remove the timing gear cover and swap it out once I get it in hand. Half hour operation... We'll get a timing light on it and get the timing spot on... though it sounds like static timing was pretty darned good. You have to wait until Gary puts his foot on the plate on the lift to really hear the motor without the clamor.

BEFORE you waste money on another oil pump, remove yours, open it up and clean the ball seats. Then, re-set them with a soft drift and a few taps with a small hammer against the balls in their seats.

You might likely get away with no further issues.

That's what we did before choosing to re-use the old pump... so new pump it is.

So Fri after work I got out and swapped out the oil pump before we went out to dinner.. Sat I got out and oiled it back up and got it started verified that I was pumping oil and got it down off the lift for the first time. Got the tires up to pressure and setup the brakes...(I might need to cut some more threads on the brake rod... but it's okay for now not much adjustment left though. Almost could have stood an extra chain link.) I am still waiting for my Tachometer to get back to me but I zip tied my cable to the bracket and took the bike out for a quickie spin around the neighborhood... it rode great... shifted through all the gears well, neutral was easy to find. Nothing fell off :). Not much longer and she'll be ready for a photo session.

Well this weekend is no good, mothers day weekend, and... I rode out to the gas station and topped off my tank yesterday and found a leak in the left bung (not the one I repaired)... so i pulled the tank today and poured in a Caswell tank liner. I just finished pouring it about a half hour ago. it's sitting and curing for a couple of days before I can re-install it. I'll be lucky to get it back together this weekend. Otherwise it's running and riding well... Next weekend should work out though.

Damn, but that machine came out nicely...love it! Great work, please post more after you get it out for a good ride. :D

Yeah... just a small setback... I'm certainly not the first guy to discover a tank leak after a restoration. Check this out.. no way in hell I was going to risk tank liner on my sweet paint job. Tape and stretch wrap over the whole thing. :)

Problem is, liquids FIND A WAY!!! They'll get in between the layers of wrap and sink into the paint, so be careful.

I doubt changing the oil pump will make much difference?
You did check the ball bearing on return line? (in crankcase, anti-siphon valve?)
Manual used to tell you to use a brass drift to re-seat it in housing and check spring (never did find out what that meant exactly?)
Never mind, I see it's been mentioned

BTW, Very nice restoration 8)

Bloody leaky tanks! It happens, but it sure isn't any fun especially after a nice paint job like that. I'm sure you'll get it sorted out...what are you using for a liner?
