64 Triumph Trophy Bobber (Now FS)

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

A small win is still a win, and getting it back and running is not so small. Onward and Upward!

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

It would be pretty rad to see this rolling by GP...

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

I believe everything I need to finish this bike has been ordered. Ive got shit from the US, Europe, China, and Canada on its way. I highly doubt it'll be done by GP (Aug 9th), just because I doubt i'll have all the parts by then. But, we'll see. I plan on spending all my time working on it dependent on when parts arrive.

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

Been making a lot of progress on the bike over the last week. Headlight mocked up, driveline finished, started on the electronics

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

Check out the old sprocket vs the new one. The old one must have been hill climbing

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

Spent my evening hollowing out the bars to fit the turn signals, drilling holes in the bars to run wires through, and wiring the front all together. As of now the turns, headlight, and gauge works. Reg/rec is hooked up but I haven't tested the stator yet. Need to wire the horn button to be the kill switch so I can test. Plan to get the tail/brake light wiring finished tonight then I'll strip the wiring out and make it pretty.

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

Oh yeah, and I'm using all vintage Japanese wiring terminals, just to piss off the purists.

Got the taillight and brake wired up. Still need to figure out a rear brake switch. Any ideas welcome, my current idea is a bit janky.

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

Finished up all the wiring and made a nice pretty harness for everything. I used all vintage Japanese connectors for the wiring, hopefully that really pisses someone off.

So what's left, need an air filter.. The rear brake rod is hopefully getting threaded as we speak. Once that's back I'll have to bend it into shape to work, need to finish the rear brake switch then, then run the fuel line. Home stretch!

Thanks for the kind words, but don't get to excited, I plan to turn this fucker around and sell it immediately. I would rather stick with japanese bikes, these triumph motors are way to much headache if your arnt living them. Tried to sell it when it was still in pieces, but its hard to sell a project in the middle without taking a major wash. Ive got to much money into it and a baby due in about 3 weeks. Checked out nates and it looks like it'll turn out really nice. Ive wanted to setup a small parts nickel plating tank, might have to hit you guys up to see how you did it.

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

More work done on the triumph, got the rear brake rod completed and fabed up a rear brake switch using a micro lever momentary switch. Hides behind the left foot control bracket so you can't really see it. So far works great.

Had it all pit together over the weekend and went to ride for the first time but hit a couple snags, biggest, it won't shift. Going to take it back to the motor builder and have him fix it. That's what I paid him for. The second was that the right side peacock leaked. Have a new one on order as rebuild kits don't really exist. Get that set back up, and back to the motor guy.. Hopefully it won't be another year to get it back now.

Re: WTF did I get myself into 64 Triumph Trophy Bobber

Is the tranny issue sorted yet?

My guess is that the gearshift butterfly gear was improperly indexed as the inner cover was slid in place on the tranny. It's got to be right or you get what you've got. ANY shop manual (even the ones that are criticized) will have the indexing instructions in the tranny section.

I paid the shop to rebuild the motor for me, so I wasn't going to fuck with it. Finished up what I needed and dropped it back off. Let them figure it out :)

Where did you get your turn signals? I'd love to get a pair and stop having to use my arms. Those look pretty rad
