73 CL350 project

I really have never been a fan of brown seats but yours is fop notch. I could like that one. Good job bike so far looks great.

Thanks guys. I have never been a big fan of brown seats either but, i had to do one. I think with everything black and a white tank, it should tie in. Hopefully.

Of course the seat is going to look great. I feel your pain at just looking at a bike waiting/wanting to be done :)

Got some things done now that I am in our new house.

New headlight bucket will be going on soon. Just have to run down to get the right bolts (british metric). Looks like I am going to powder coat the exhause matte black and leave the heat shields chrome. I havn't done anything with the wheels, still need to be cleaned up. I have a spare set that I think I will tear down, powder coat, install new spokes and put on this bike here in the future.
I did a fuel disconnect under the tank. Drives me nuts when you need to take the tank off and have gas spill all over.

I used cb360 fork tubes with the cl350's slides, rear shocks are from my old 76cb360. They looked the same as the stock ones that came on this bike. They were just way to soft and had to much spring in them (think they need a rebuild).

I still need to figure out what front fender I am going to use and if I am going to cut it down. I have one from a 360 and two from a cl350. I may cut one of the 350's down a bit, powder coat it matte black as well. Or...... do you think it is safe to run with out one or maybe cut on down just to use as a fork brace?

your 350 is looking great.
the seat paint combo = fresh and awesome.
everyone will tell you, it needs a fender or brace.
If you do decide to cut one down...be careful not to go too short w it right off the bat. I cut my first fender down as short as I cold get it. Then, it looked weird to me...I ran it for a long time and it never did grow on me. So, off to ebay. My second one is just a little longer and it looks a whole lot better to me. link to some pics of my fenders.
shorter fender

longer fender...

also you gotta be careful when buying one of those fuel line quick connects, some stop gas from both sides, some from only one side, and some dont stop gas from flowing at all. I got one a long time ago. Amazon.com it stops gas from both sides and it still works great.

Thanks man! The disconnect I bought from the guys at DCC so I am assuming it will work right. I use these same ones in my business on some equipment and they stop the fluid on both sides. I will do a test and make sure this one does before filling tank.

I actually have two front frnders off of a cl350 and one off of a cb360. Definitly going to cut one of the cl350's down (the one that came on the bike) due to there being dents all over. The second one I got off ebay and wasn't as described (crack by the mounting bracket) but will work.
Well see.

just try blowing some air through it when apart.
Heres the one I got...$22.71 free shipping
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJ8XGC/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
looks like the cheap $19.99 at DCC might be just one sided shut off...but not absolutely sure about that.
the $26 dollar one might be same as mine.

Trek97- Tested the disconnect and it closes on both ends. Thanks for the heads up before I got things all hooked up.

I cut the front fender down today and welded up a crack on the side of it. I think the length is just right. Sending it off to powder coat along with the mufflers whenever I can rustle up the funds to pay for it.

Cool. Looking forward to pics of the fender on the bike. How much did you cut it?

Honestly, i didn't measure. Just went by what looked good. It was somewhere around 4-5 inches on each end.

All that is left to do is get blinkers blinking. I have a new flasher and tried the old one and nothing! Stumped right now on that one. High beam is hooked up but cannot get low beam connected. Brake light wont come on but tail light will. Might be a faulty brake light switch. All fun stuff.

Front fender is now painted. Still need to figure out how to route and keep the speedo and front brake cable back away from the side of the tire. Muffler will be going on soon. Was going to get it powder coated black but have run out of funds. Will have to wait. Need to trim tabs on side covers to get them to pop into the new rubber grommets.

Re: 73 CL350 project...DONE!

Well, this wasn't the most detailed build thread but, for what it's worth. The bike is done. It wont start up yet (I believe it is a bad coil) but all the cosmetic stuff is done. I have another set of wheels that will be getting powdercoated black here in the future that will be going on it.

I think it turned out pretty good. First couple of pics is what it looked like the day I brought it home.

Nice bike.

I have become the Master of the Coil. I have 3 or 4 extra at any given moment. Last weekend I went out for a practice session and then the bike wouldn't start the next time. 10minutes later and it had a new coil and I was riding.
