Softening the old air intake boots. Boil in water for 30 minutes then put in 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and wintergreen for 24 hours. Wintergreen is becoming harder and harder to find. This is meant for horses.

Methyl salicylate - I used to buy it at the drug store. Don't get it on plastics! And don't sit on a rag soaked in it like a buddy did. Blistered his butt. In the Navy, we sometimes used it as a penetrating oil.

Everything's been on hold. But back at it again. A lot has been done. I sewed the seat. has some wrinkles, but its ok enough. Having the frame powder coated as we speak. And removed the paint from the hand controls and put a clear coat over them. Putting on a drag handle bar for a lower profile. Engine is out and looking for someone with a pressure washer to bum for the clean. I made plugs for the ports out of kayak scupper plugs, washers and wingnuts.

You'll want to soak the engine with Gunk or your favorite engine cleaner/degreaser before hitting it with the pressure washer. In my experience, the grime builds up one layer at a time, and comes off the same.

Thanks. Yeah I’ve got some degreaser I’ll hit it with first.

I found it easier but longer to spray straight heavy duty simple green on, let it soak but not dry out, scrub, spray more, scrub. (I use the little brass, stainless and nylon tooth brush sized ones, and assorted rifle cleaning scrubbers for in the fins.) Rinse and repeat. On a complete engine...disassembled spray away! Even better was a degreaser by zep? At home depot next to simple green...it is heavy duty and not skin or lung friendly.

Thanks for all the tips. Yeah apartment living in Los Angeles has a few drawbacks. I used spray nine grez off on my last bike, that worked pretty well.

A few new bits. New speedo and tach rubbers. New regulator/rectifier. New rear wheel damper bushings for when I get the frame and swing arm back. New solenoid. 1pz claims to be pretty good quality. All copper instead of alloy.

Had to modify the solenoid housing a tad to get a better grip since it’s shorter than stock.

Also. Wet down your spraying area first so you won’t kick up dust.
