I've got a chance to pick up a '77 750 Hondamatic, 30k miles, decent condition, farkled w/ sissy bar & rack, very decent looking, runs but will need carb rebuild. Price probably between $500 and $800. Know these aren't the most desirable for what most of us here on DTT do, but I'm not sure what the general market for the thing would be... not something that I'd buy for myself but as an investment? Looking for opinions from those more knowledgeable than I...

Went to see it. While it’s cosmetically pretty decent, in order to make it really nice the left 2-1 exhaust would have to be replaced because a particularly bad looking repair job. Windshield, highway pegs, and rack/sissy bar would have to be binned.

overall it’s not something id want to risk as a flipper and most certainly not something I’d want for myself. Oh well...

I saw one a few years ago and the owner had put a cool turbocharger on it. The bike had the tins from an 81 Honda 900F, it looked pretty cool.

Good thing. You got saved, LOL. Personally, I think you'd end up drowning underwater on a Hondamatic even if you got it for free.

Think you are right. Brother-in-law came over this morning w/ a pix of it on his phone asking me what it's worth and thought I might be interested, I know they are a real dog and not very popular but went over to look at it anyway (any excuse to ride the R1150R) and came to a quick conclusion. Pretty good for shape for a '77, but somebody else can be bothered w/ the thing.

I don't know if some people were looking for an automatic but all Honda did was make their flagship heavier and slower.
