77 GS550 High idle

Hey folks, I just bought 77 Suzuki Gs 550 with 17k on it. She runs like a champ...well that was until I decided to change the stock bars out for clubmans. Before the swap she was running fine and idling perfectly, after the swap when I start her up she revs very high. I don't currently have a tachometer cable so I can't say at what rpm, but what I would guess is between 4-5k. I checked the cables and they aren't binding up anywhere I can tell. I am stumped at what might be the culprit. Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is a pic of the ole gal.

Taking a look around it seems I might need to try rerouting the cables. I am going to reroute them to the opposite side of the frame and also lube up the cables. Hopefully this should help the problem.

I was gonna suggest rerouting. The golden rule is if something stops working after you do something then it's probably the thing that you've done that's buggered it up. Hence you should only do one thing at a time ;)

Rerouting should solve your issues champ.

I feel like an idiot. I took apart the throttle housing and looked closer and well the cable snapped. It must have snapped sometime during the install of the clubmans. I found a set and went ahead and ordered.

Great stuff! Another bike soon to be enjoyed once more.

A good friend and I were setting up system for a show we were running and we couldn't figure out why we weren't getting sound through the front of house. We hadn't turned on the power amps... On that day a phrase was coined "nothing is idiot proof".

So don't feel too bad, we all do it. ;)
